Abject failure to comply

Well, the suggestions I made to the fighter program were digested by the group about as well as a baby eating a brick. The people that currently call the shots seem to want to have the fighter program appeal to those with ADD. None of them seem to have any grasp on a full scale martial arts technique. They seem to think that you can "graduate" from the basics. Please. NOONE, not even the grandmaster, graduates from the basics. You spend about 50% of every practice time reviewing and doing simple exercises. That's just how it works. I don't care if you get bored with not bashing someone every twenty minues, if you want to build skill and be the best you can be, you have to do that. Beat the tar out of someone on your own time.

In the end, I may have to teach the style seperately from that of the group. I may link with the group for small teaching sessions, like once a week, but in order to build up the style that is more fluid and can aid those with less upper body strength, as well as get a devoted group of fighters. I might be able to get 5 or 6 people under my belt. In essence, I hope to learn and teach a form that I can take back home, and have a good time starting up a kingdom or barony or whatever with my friends and those interested. I know at least a few people that can have fun with an art form and not take pride in only themselves.

To my friends reading my journal, let me know if you would be interested in helping me start a province of the SCA over in Isabella county. There is much more than heavy weapons fighting, there is rapier, arts + sciences (like sewing, blacksmithing, heraldry, etc.) and even creating a medieval persona that is yours and a coat of arms to go with it. For more info, check out www.sca.org.

And for those interested in learning a kickass sword form, let me know too.

Ciao.
