I know a number of people who are either in an Education programme or who are considering one and based upon their description of their classes and assignments, much of what they do sounds like the purest bullshit. The professors require you to keep a journal and discuss your feelings, while studiously avoiding actually teaching you how to do anything. Instead of learning how to write a lesson plan you instead discuss how you feel about lesson plans. Self-esteem is the order of the day. As far as I can tell, it's a matter of learning the magic words and making sure you use lots of them in all your papers. These talismans include terms like "student-centered pedagogy," "peer evaluation," "social transformation" and "collaborative learning."
Now it may be that my perception of Education degrees are inaccurate and it may be that you've found a much better one than anyone I know. But I felt I should mention that if you're going through with this you should go in with your eyes open, ready to grit your teeth and bear it when things get...well...stupid.
