Hesperia Main and 395 san gabriels,
originally uploaded by lorezme.

I'll write more later; right now I have to drive back this same road to teach a class.

Big Bear and surrounding towns are getting hit hard.

The smoke in this photo is over the other end of the valley, near our place - the mountains here are the San Gabriels (Big Bear is in the San Bernardinos, 50-plus miles to the east). Obviously the smoke is blowing westward. Kind of south-west, in fact. For now. This photo was taken about 3:00 PM. The sun really is out in southern California - we just can't sere it in some places. And, yes, the weather predictions were correct - it's very warm.

Everything is moment by moment. Interstate 15 (the main way in and out of this desert/mountain area) has been closed twice today and right now it is open. My stranded son just walked through the door. Relief. Hugs, :) None the worse for the wear - he's heading out to do something. Oh to be 18 again. It remains to be seen how M will get home. Another 4-hour commute through the wilds of Los Angeles and up the back (way back) route? A straight shot up 15?

Today son # 4 turns 15. Will wax nostalgic after class.

My eyes are burning. Mother's tears and the bits of smoke drifting over my house...
