It's hot. It's humid. Weird. The usual high desert nighttime cooling is absent. Cloud cover but no rain. Had lunch with C today and as we were emerging into the afternoon light (from a pretty dark local dive), we saw lightening in the east. But tonight, I can find no traces. I may go and sit in the back and watch the night sky for a while after I do some prep work for this term. Or maybe I'll just go outside. :)
I was outside a little while ago and noticed that parts of Scorpius were evident through the clouds. Antares was particularly red. Just seeing that put me in a good mood. Love that star...I wish I still knew a good jeweler. I'd love to have a silver necklace made with (something less expensive than) diamonds as the constellation's other stars and the heart of Scorpius, red Antares, a ruby. Maybe a garnet, that may be more aligned with my means. Or to be more accurate, my hoped-for means. Someday, we'll pull this financial mess together. I sure hope.
Alas, the paleo monitoring has been postponed. The clients don't have the permits nor their funding yet. You'd THINK they would have told us before I went out there with a trainee. The contract did specify 24-48 hours notice of such. So we'll be cooling our heels for...well, a few weeks. They'll probably call us in right about the time fall classes start. At least I have a good schedule for field work with mostly night classes.
