So in the past three days or so, I have been in somewhere around 4-5 earthquakes of varying size and magnitude. I'm pretty sure the world is ending around here seeing as this is more earthquakes than I have been in so far in my life. So in Rome now and just got done seeing some of the sites including the Diocletian baths, the bath of Caracalla, the Trevi fountain, and the Pantheon. Not too bad for a day and took some pictures which will be up once I get back in another 5 weeks. The end of the week was a bit better than the start seeing as I actually got my trench on friday and began excavating. For those who know some archaeology, I'm basically excavating the hypocaust under the caldarium of the baths at Carsulae. For those who don't know what that is, I'm digging up the hollow area under the hot room which is what gives that rooms it's heat. I've already found some stacks of tile on which the floor is supported, which is a good thing seeing as that's what I expected to be there. Other than that, I've found other pieces of tile, a funky piece of terracotta with a nubbin', a few bones, a piece of a mosiac, and a little piece of glass. Nothing too fantabulous yet, but I've only just begun. Our group itself is pretty small and there are only three of us who are staying for the full six weeks, but there are others who will be coming in later on during the season. A little fun fact for those who worked at Murlo with me, I'm working with another grad student, from FSU, who knows Lafe! What a sexy man. A bit bored of this now, so I'll end it and finish playing on the net. And of course I will have to use the good old Lafe icon too.
