We all know folks who are feeling the pinch lately. Useful advice is hard to offer, because everyone handles pressure in their own way, but here are a few things that work for me.
- Get lost in a good book. Old favorites are best; new books demand too much attention, and the suspense could kill you.
- Feel the music. Give me a comfortable chair, a quiet room, a glass of wine, and More Best of Leonard Cohen, and the worries just drift away.
- Change your scene. Pull the plug and go camping for a weekend, or at least take a walk in an unfamiliar park.
- Switch off, game on. Smash a few monsters, blast a few asteroids ... a little gratuitous violence does wonders for my peace of mind.
- Return to innocence. You probably know someone willing-nay, eager-to let you sit with their infant for an hour. There's nothing like a sleeping baby to put things in perspective.
What works for you?
