I just finished Monitor Duty. HOW MUCH OF A PAIN WAS IT, UH? A VERY BIG PAIN, THAT'S WHAT IT WAS. Urg... those were.. way too many links, and my mouse's right button -the one that prompts the 'copy link location' thingie, even!- is failing. So.... that was a pain!
There's a new comm, for example, called
fuckyou_batman, a place to rant about what bothers you

how about all the people who don't like Batman and write him as the vessel for all their daddy issues and partner issues and male issues? I'm just saying, he's a character who is supposed to be a guardian and a hero, maybe? maybe? Fucked up, if you want, sure! But he still kicks ass and fights crime and is awesome. But nope! Batman was shit to everyone and they all cried and the world ended! I have to take refuge in canon from fanon somedays.. canon Batman so kicks ass.
I couldn't agree more. Batman is awesome. Nothing more, nothing less. He's just so... amazing and heroic and I love him so much!!!!! *hearts him* This is what annoys me (as you know! :P) when people say Batman doesn't do commitment, because Hello??? He's dedicated his life from the age of 8 to fighting crime. He's raised 4 - maybe even 5 - children, and yet people say he's not committed? *brain brakes* Seriously, if he was that much of a bastard the BatClan would have all packed up and left a loooooong time ago. *will stop ranting now*
Ooooh, links!!! I will have to check those out, when I have some more time! :)

Batman is a fictional character whe can be anything we want him to be. But his core is that of a hero, he fights crime, he rights wrongs, he's the protector of children and the innocent. He's not pedophile, or an alcoholic, or a broken mess that isn't capable of doing anything other than bitch and destroy people being petty. And I'm not talking my personal fanon, I'm talking canon. I'm sick and tired of Bruce being the mean daddy and the mean boyfriend and the mean friend and just all around the example of what a man shouldn't be because people can't take the fact that one can be quiet and obsessed and reserved and a little unwell and yet be freaking heroic and awesome. They don't like the fact that this fictional character is better than them despite the tragedy, so he must be the oppressor in their lives, not a figure of empowerment. And I have been avoiding some fic like crazy because, hey, if I don't like, I don't read, but when I have to go and archive all those stories I found petty and small and whiny for MD, I just go crazy. Because fanfic isn't exactly known for dwelling on the ass kicking and the action and the good fight -we tend to dwell on the down time and the relationships with each other and the talking, and that's perfectly fine, but I have reached a point where I doubt those little weepy characters do anything other than screw each other's lives and cry about it. No one, nor the Great Oppressor or the Sweet Martyr go out there and actually help anyone else. It's just... ugh. I read *superhero* fiction, for god's sake, because I love *superheroes*.
And yes! lol, after my little rant -which admittedly is mostly about poor little Dick, so abused and unloved! why does nothing ever goes his way when he's nothing but sparkles! *rolls eyes*- I agree with you on the commitment issue. That one, along with the 'Batman can't do relationships' makes me want to punch people in the face. The Batfamily is the biggest superhero family out there, and they don't always work great, but I live in a family of five where no one is actually a superhero risking their lives, so let's say, a lot less stress here, and yet we still don't get along on regular basis and we fight and yell and we love each other. That's family. Bruce will first die than let something happen to his children. To any children. That's his whole schtick, taking tragedy to empower himself and protect others, so they don't have to go through what he had to go through.
Hell, to be honest, I have come to re-evaluate my feelings on Miller due fandom. I might not like his take on Batman, but at least it's obvious he loves Batman. He writes him with joy. You can tell that stuff, when something is written out of spite and when something is written with joy.
*hugs* Sorry I ranted so much! uhm. I love Batman! I prefer him broken and psychotic than as a stand in for people's thinly veiled issues! At least veil them better, you know? :P

I'm still not sure about Miller! I have never read any of his work, so... But yeah, if I was given a choice between Miller - say Year One Batman, since that's the only Miller I heard that is good - and some of the stories that are out there where Batman is a general bastard and everyone hates him... I'd pick Miller any day! :p (never thought I'd say that, but...)
Have you got your tickets for NY sorted out, btw? I hope everything's stopped being stupid. :)
