Bruce-fest: Canon for the deluded
Evening, ladies and gentlemen. I want to welcome you to tonight's event: Bruce-fest, Canon for the Deluded, in which you'll find an assortment of canon scans that make up my view of Bruce Wayne/Batman as a character. A warning must be made before you enter the lj-cut: My Bruce is sane, fun, well-adjusted, a good parent, a stand up guy and friend. He's also bad ass and is allowed to act like an ass. If this Bruce is not up to Miller standards is because I surely don't know who is this Miller person you speak of.
This is Canon for the Deluded. I am happy to call myself one.
Without further ado,
Psychosis
Let me start by saying that no, my Batman is not psychotic. These two pages are my take on Batman's psychosis. A guy which in his worst can only remember that he does this to help others... well, I hope my break downs were that benign.
Human faults
Bruce can and will die. The goddamn Batman is not infallible. There won't be another Batman after he dies.
Bruce is not used to run his house. He depends on others all the time. And that applies to all he does: Alfred, Lucius, Jim, Babs, the JLA, the little birds... that is not a bad thing.
Brucie
The Brucie persona is a fop. He has to be stupid enough to fool people into thinking this massive guy with dagger eyes is harmless (I'm looking at Alex Ross art, and there's no way in hell that gu is harmless). He has to be smart enough to get things done. It's not an easy balance. But you know what? Bruce obviously has fun doing this, even if he has to let go of his dignity. Intelligent people can laugh at themselves.
What is with Bruce and mauve shirts?
Nevermind that that's not how bra's look like.

Brucie is badass. Never forget that.
Asshattery
Bruce is and can be a total ass. That's normal. That's what people do when they are feeling angry, mad, betrayed or simply tired. I must be the only person on the world that doesn't blame Bruce for Tower of Babel. To me, is like blaming Clark for being mind controlled every thursday... There's limits to the asshattery, of course, but for the extremes, I blame the writer, not the character.
I am obsessed with that watch. Damn your accesories, Bruce!
Besides, for every moment someone puts up with your asshattery, you put up with them in return. Clark will show us.
Friends
Now, when someone acts like a jackass all the time, said someone is in no possition to have friends. So, for my deluded pleasure, Bruce's male bonding moments. I wish I had more scans with J'onn, Plas, Ollie, Terrific and Hal, and the JLI, but I can't find them.
Bruce and Clark have a long history of being pals. Good and bad, they are there for each other because that's what friends do. They are both quite captable of asshattery, but they stick together. No need to slash.

Now, those two should have more scans, but I can't find their thanksgiving of love scans. So I give you a fanboy moment from Michael. Remember, jackasses don't have filthy rich genius fanboys.

Relationships
My Bruce can have relationships just fine, thank you very much. There's not many people that could follow his stride, but he can. Foremost is the mission, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love all those that surround him with fiery passion. Those that mess with those he loves should be careful.

Family
Bruce loves his little birds and his girls, and Alfie and Jim and everyone else that's close to home. No other way around it. Now, I can't find my 'Bruce loves Barbara' scans, but it's one of my favorite moments of NML.

I'll never forget your adventures with Sid Vicious, Bruce, but you look adorable with Tim.
Parenthood
So. Dick. Bruce being an ass to Dick. Dick and Bruce having a strained relationship. All that is perfectly normal; fighting because dad won't let you make your own mistakes and is overprotective even though you are an adult are all normal conflicts of parenthood. Dick turned out fine. Bruce does what he can, and loves his boys, and doesn't manipulate them emotionally like some milleresque monster of a parent. He simply is a reserved guy, that doesn't mean he doesn't show them he loves them in other ways.
Dick was in the dire need of some smacking, but what I really see here is a parent who is angry and worried.
Thank you Dick, for giving me canon to feed my delusion.
Human Emotion
A.k.a. that guy is not made from scowling cardboard. My Bruce has a heart of gold, no matter how grim or emo he might get at times.

My favorite thing about Batman isn't that he's a martial artist, or a ninja from hell. I love that he is a detective, but even more? I love his side skills. Escape artist, chemist, mechanic, technophiliac cooportate negotiator. I love Bruce.
