(Upload) Superman Returns Redux Challenge

This is for Sasha’s Superman Returns Redux Challenge. She said: ‘You don’t like Lois? Cut down her screen time. You think the kid is too wimpy? Tough him up. You think there’s no enough Batman? Bring him around.’ And I said ‘I wouldn’t even know where to start!’ and she said ‘Well, you could write it all over!’ And I thought maybe I could do ( Read more... )

*grin* Santa's already giving you a spanking, so what does it matter! While writing this I came to the conclusion that Clark just generally sucks at parenthood (Jason and Kon, way to go). Also, "Men are from Krypton and women are of Kleenex" or however that thing was named. Yes. Lois didn't have a chance. Also, since I can't write batty-Rex, here's batty-Jason instead!

Lol, yay! no words is great :) I'm very happy you liked it. I wanted so bad to see more of Superman on his movie, and then more of Batman, and then less of Lois...

LJ hates me this fine morning. Noon. Thing.

I hesitated to read this because Jen and I have not yet seen the movie, but (since we failed to make it today and that puts a viewing at least a week away...)

I just love the repitition of the line about the world never stopping turning. It amplifies for me, in some ways, the idea that to Clark (with his presumably longer life span) five years is nothing compared to the vast sweep that a half a decade can represent in human terms.

*nudges DaMo* Um, sweetie? "Superman" doesn't come out here until August 19. We were going to go see "Pirates."

*turns away from DaMo to Mina*

Mina, this is so lovely! Geez, I can't even tell you what parts I liked best. Wait. "B says you're the biggest superhero ever." OK, I can tell you what part I liked best. I choked up. And...Jason! Jason Jordan! J.J.! I...I want to see more of him! And I usually have no interest in seeing offspring!

The way Bruce doesn't look up, in the way you pause before you take a drink of something when you're desperately thirsty, just savoring the knowledge that soon you'll have what you want there.

And how you imply that raising J.J. has to some extent saved Bruce from becoming the dark broody bat we have in canon--that is what you're implying, isn't it? Because you write him so utterly sane and yet still Bruce (who would have thought it possible?)

"You erased her memory of it, didn’t you? Asshole.”Thank you, Bruce. And I love the flatness of it, like all the rancor has been worn out ( ... )

But... but... but... I wanna go see Soooperman!

Even though my husband is so crazy he doesn't even know what we're doing lately.
wanna wanna wanna!

No seriously, I really thought we were going to go see Superman today. I completely forgot that they moved the release of the movie back to the day before our anniversary! Whoohoo. I remembered. Go me!

And Mina... this was very lyrically written. Beautifully written.

Yeah, i wanted to write some scenes of Bruce with a younger JJ, telling him stories about his mom and his dad. Bruce knows what it means to be an orphan, and how you can only have on set of parents (as much as Alfred did for him, Alfred never stepped into the father role, he's very clear about it). I couldn't make myself call the boy just Jason, Bruce kept flinching. He already had a Jason son. So I added a new name. I'm very happy you liked JJ!

Yeah, JJ kept Bruce from wallowing too much because he was needed. So he never turned uber gritty, he had to come back home and be a not-daddy. Sane!Bruce was freaking me out! I was expecting him to be angrier, but he was so zen, it was shocking!

Lol, well, women are of kleenex... you know, super birth can't be easy! and even less when you look like a freaking 19 year old with a child of 5. (I thought Lois looked to young to have a pulizer and a son. Just saying.)

I'm glad you liked it! I had a lot of fun writing it and getting Clark down from his cloud.

Mina! THIS was the movie I wanted to see! You did such an outtanding job with this story. Truly, it's a masterpiece. So many layers to this story...

>>“Hello, Bruce,” Clark said, feeling his stomach somersault. Five years. It had been five long years.

...and you even made me like the kid!

I love the way Clark starts out feeling that 5 years wasn't so terribly long, but by the end of the story, it seems to him that all he time in the world had passed. The change in his perception of the time spent away really emphasizes his alien nature, while the poignancy of his reactions stressed his humanity.

Bravo, Mina. You outdid yourself with this one.

:D I would be lost without your help, T, so take a bow yourself! I got the inspiration for finishing this the day of the chat, when we started writing the story... I felt like I needed to write them, and I had to finish this story, so you jump started it :)

I'm very happy you liked JJ. It's hard to like the kids sometimes, but I took a liking of him once he lost the whimpy and got on the batty. And Clark, well. He kind of expected things to be the same than when he left, maybe some catch up was in order, nothing Superman couldn't handle. But in life (even more in DC) 5 years is a lot of time. Imagine how many near-armaggedons he missed. He had another thing coming :) I'm very happy you enjoyed the story, I kind of just rewrote the first 20 minutes of the movie. There's still the Lex crazy scheme to deal with, but those two together? The movie would have been 45 minutes long :) Thanks for your help with it!
