The smell of leather, Kevlar and jet fuel is like an aura around him, the bouquet of a dark, strong wine. Around the edges there is the faintest of smells. Nothingness. The void.
I think only you could capture how nothingness and the void would smell.
Batman recognizes it, and with a pang of exasperation notices the equipment still hasn't been upgraded. He had meant to, had planned to do that after Orion's murder case had been solved, but then...
I love the little references to Final Crisis, the pain Clark feels at Bruce's last words, the way they're so keenly aware of how relatively normal everything was and how abruptly it all vanished.
His eyes are empty, his gaze far away, and Clark is alone.
How both of them keep feeling alone, how such a big part of the other person is locked in their own personal hell, with their painful memories...it's wonderful. Any other two people might have fallen apart entirely. Clark's repeated "We can do this," that sort of commanding himself to find a way, it seems so like both of them. Oh, and this!
"What should we get to first?"
Bruce. It's funny, you had told me you were going to have Bruce decide to fix everything, but that line still hit me right in the stomach at the sheer ballsy courage of it.
That it's Clark's wish that makes Bruce's jump to cube time possible is absolutely perfect.
Second chances are limitless.
That pretty much could be Superman and Batman's motto, and I love them for it.
They can turn their worries into plans, their burdens into anchors, their tragedies into a purpose that guides their way.
I LOVE THIS LINE. You always know how to hit my pro-active, efficient, responsible-power buttons, lol. Thank you so much! *massive hugs*

I'm so glad you liked this story! man, I'm super behind on replying, but you know I <3 youuu! :D
I love making Clark focus on what Bruce smells X) I am clearly very romantic about that, lol, as Bruce probably doesn't always smell of roses..
I am still so rattled by Clark's last words to Bruce! that's.. 'I'm sure you can hold the fort' and then he dies??? aughhh!! And I know Bruce would focus on all the practical things he didn't get to do while he was gone... he's going to cry when he sees the Batcave, I know it!
I am so sad that in comics, they do keep a lot of their pain locked up.. I mean, I know I rather have it like that than crazy smoochying time like Lois and Clark's weird lost moment in Superman 700, but... they really need to support each other!I really hope they get some nice moments not just in a reunion, but.. like, some quiet buddy moments... it's probably too much to ask!
Bruce will fix everything if it makes Clark happy! he will do anythinggg to make Clark happy! he can't bear seeing Clark being so distraught! I am so sad that after Clark's happy ending wish he's going through all of this! MORRISON WOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM A HAPPIER ENDING.
Pro-active efficient competent heroes!! HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THEM?? SO MUCHHH
I'm so glad you liked the story! :D you make everything a lot more funnnn! you're the best kittennnn in the world!
