"Your plan--" Superman paused, his voice wavering for a second. He breathed deep, and as he exhaled a lot of the tension seemed to leave his body. It was so obvious how much Clark missed Bruce.
Dick stood up and stretched a hand towards Superman, who took it in a steady shake. "I promise. You take care too, Clark, okay? We're gonna miss you around here." I liked this part and Dick-Clark talk. These last lines showed Dick’s feelings so well.
Then, the ring took over Superman, and all the colors faded into gray, his last cry of pain lost in the stillness of death. That was so sad.
The tightness around his eyes, the lines around his mouth, the set of his jaw. Even as his eyes were kind and his tone was friendly, Damian could see it. A certain restraint, the concealment of pain. Damian watching Dick and Clark and hearing their conversation - it was amazing how well he could read Clark’s facial expression.
"Hey, it occurred to me that this was our first Superman/Batman team up," Grayson said cheerily as Superman -in a much more sensible battle suit, not his blue and red spandex- took for the skies, going back to New Krypton. „much more sensible battle suit“ - well said. I think it fits the colors of Clark’s suit on New Krypton.
But now Robin's curiosity was piqued, and he wondered if he ought to check the files of his father. Perhaps they would tell him more, like why the alien was so sure Damian's father had always trusted him, even when others doubted him, or why he mourned his loss in silence. I think, checking the files was a good idea.
Normally, he would step back while his caped charges worked, lingering only to offer a sounding board to theories or fulfill any requests -as long as they were sensible requests, unlike young master Damian's cries for a sword or an armory- but he had a personal stake with the body on the slab. These lines captured Alfred’s character so well!
"I can tell you. You have black hair, and when it's long it curls around your ears, but you usually have it shorter than that. Your hairline does a widow's peak, but it's not too pronounced. Your eyes are the color of the winter sky, cold, hard and bright. Full of compassion and intelligence and courage, like a fire is burning inside you, a window to the brightest of souls." That was such an amazing description of Bruce! I loved to hear it from Clark. And the description of Clark in the next paragraph was very fitting and wonderful as well.
Bruce buried a hand in Clark's hair, grabbing a fistful and pulling him back. With his eyes still closed, he searched for Clark's mouth, the facile curve of his lips, fighting the vertigo with the surety of Clark's presence, leaning on his strength. AWWWW! That was an awesome moment!
Clark smiled, his hands roaming over his back, his hair, touching him like it was the first time. "You remembered me before you remembered yourself. You trusted me." Good thing Bruce trusted Clark! :)
That was excellently written! I loved the way Clark/Superman was cooperating with Dick and Alfred and how much he believed that he had found Bruce and tried to bring him back. Great job! Thanks for sharing! :)
Yay! I'm very glad you liked this! I had sooo much fun playing with all the random canon, finding bits where Clark could mourn Bruce. Bruce will be back soooon! :D
I'm happy you liked Damian's section, too! He's a ver fun character for me to write because I think he has the right detective instincts but all the wrong cultural background, so he struggles to interpret the cues he reads.
Clark describing Bruce and Bruce remembering Clark were one of my favorite parts to write! I wondered if Clark or Superman should confront Oberon, but then I thought Bruce had to remember *Clark*, not Superman, and that would be Bruce's final step back! so.. I loved the way the pieces fit there :D
So glad you liked it! thank you so much for reading and the wonderful feedback!! :D you totally made my dayyy! :D
