AIDS Walk call for donations

May 14, 2009 12:42

I know everybody's finances are tight, so I'm not expecting to raise as much this year as I did last year.

But!

Please consider giving something. Donations are down, and people needing care are up.

For those of you who don't know, or weren't around when I made the call last year, AIDS Walk NY is not a research walk -- it's for care. There have been some really great developments in the treatment of AIDS over the years, and it's no longer the death sentence it used to be. But managing the disease is very expensive: between medication, tests, a doctor's time, and the health insurance they may or may not have, many people can't afford to take advantage of the advances that have been made. GHMC and other organizations do their best to fill in the gaps, and the donations to the AIDS Walk pay for those efforts.

The AIDS Walk is this coming Sunday, May 17. While I can accept donations into June, I'd really love to make a good showing on the day of.

Here's where I stand right now:

(Will update as new donations arrive... hopefully, anyway!)

NB: The minimum donation accepted online is $25. If that's too much for you, but you want to contribute something, you can PayPal me the money (rsterbin at gmail) and I'll enter the donation manually.

ETA: YAY! miss_yt did a good deed, and so did one of my co-workers. :D

ETA the second: collabi and someone who wishes to remain anonymous also donated! Thanks to both of you!

OMG my flist is full of such lovely people! *hugs everybody*
