Donghae returned from the hunt feeling tired but satisfied, the hunt was successful, they got a male boar not far from the village and it was Yesung’s turn to take care of the carcass.
Donghae was walking back home when Kyuhyun ran to meet him.
“Hyung! You have to come with me! Hyukjae … he’s injured…!”
Without waiting for the rest of Kyuhyun’s explanation, Donghae cut Kyuhyun, “Take me to him!”
Kyuhyun brought Donghae to the healer’s house. Heechul was inside with Hyukjae but even before anyone said anything, Donghae could smell it.
Blood. Hyujae’s blood.
“What happened? Where is he?!” Donghae became frantic with worry.
“He’s with Heechul Hyung, Hae … you need to wait here”, Siwon, who was there as well, tried to calm Donghae. He knew it was useless knowing the bad news Donghae was going to receive soon but at least he could try.
Ryeowook came running to healer’s house.
“Ah you found him”, he panted, “I’ve been looking for you Hyung!”
He turned to Donghae, “I’m really sorry, Hyung …”
Then he explained to Donghae that this morning the pups wanted to release the ice lizard they caught yesterday. Ryeowook had told them to wait for him and Yesung to take them out of the gate but since Yesung and the other Alphas went to hunt, the pups became impatient and sneaked out.
Ryeowook, who was chatting with Hyukjae, heard the pups screaming. They ran to the gate and found three red eyed wolves circling the pups. Hyukjae quickly jumped outside after telling Ryeowook to get help.
Hyukjae fought the three red eyed wolves to protect the pups in his wolf form, he was quickly overwhelmed, but he fought fiercely. By the time Shindong arrived with Siwon, Hyukjae was already bleeding and was cornered. The two Alphas killed the wolves then brought the wounded Hyukjae back.
Donghae gritted his teeth, he knew he couldn’t blame anyone, he could only hope that Hyukjae was not in grave danger.
Meanwhile, Heechul was examining Hyukjae’s condition. Hyukjae was fighting to stay awake, despite his injuries.
The wounds on his body were recovering, Heechul tried to feel Hyukjae’s internal organs to check for more injuries when suddenly Hyukjae gripped his wrist.
“Hyung … I’m with pup …” Hyukjae moaned softly, “Please Hyung … save my pup … it’s Donghae’s …”
Heechul’s hand moved to Hyukjae’s stomach, light blue light glowed under his palm.
“Please save my baby Hyung …” Hyukjae sobbed.
Heechul sighed, the glow was weak, Heechul stroke Hyukjae’s still flat stomach, red began to form on Hyukjae’s pants.
“Listen to me Hyukkie”, Heechul told the Omega gently. “You’ll be alright … Hyung is here and you’ll be fine …”
“My baby Hyung …” Hyukjae’s voice was strained, he must be in pain.
Heechul poured something from one of the bottles on the shelf to a clean cloth.
“You need to sleep now Hyuk, let Hyung help you”, Heechul pressed the wet cloth on Hyukjae’s mouth and nose, “That’s it … Sleep Hyuk …”
As Hyukjae was unconscious, Heechul removed Hyukjae’s pants with a pair of scicors. Blood was already pooling from Hyukjae’s lower body.
“Shit”, Heechul cursed.
Fifteen minutes later, Heechul came out of the house, a bundle of white cloth with a small stain of blood in his hand. He gave it to Donghae.
“I’m sorry Donghae, I can’t save the pup”.
Donghae accepted the bundle, speechless.
“It was nine weeks old, I can’t tell the gender, it was too small to survive”.
“Please save Hyukjae, Hyung”, Donghae’s tone was shaky.
Heechul nodded, he went into the house, followed by Ryeowook.
As soon as the door was closed, Donghae fell to his knees, clutching the bundle.

When Hyukjae opened his eyes, he could see the dark sky from the window on the other side of the room. He didn’t recognize the room he was in, he was probably at the healer’s house. He pressed his palm against his stomach and couldn’t feel his baby anymore.
Hyukjae tried to stand up, his head spun as he straightened up. He felt something wet on his wrist and when he looked closer, he could see that the ink on his tattoo was melting away from his skin, revealing another tattoo underneath. He rubbed the skin and the second tattoo also melted away, leaving a simple silver lines on his skin. Curious, Hyukjae wiped the area, he frowned as the silver lines revealed an old calligraphy that read: dalnim.
He looked out to the winter sky, where the pale moon was high in the clear night sky. A distant memory calling out to him.
The more he tried to recall what was calling out to him, his head hurt even more. Hyukjae tried to find something to support his body but failed and he fell to the ground.
Before darkness took over, he heard a woman calling out to him.
Then he remembered her singing a soft lullaby.
“… By thy pale beams I solitary rove,
To thee my tender grief confide;
Serenely sweet you gild the silent grove,
My goddess, and my guide …”

Junsu ran across the forest in his wolf form, it was very early in the morning and the snow was thick on the ground, the silver wolf ran swiftly between the trees and as he reached the end of the forest, he ran to the abandoned shacks under the trees to transform into his human form.
From there, the blond walked to the nearby village.
The human village was on the other side of the forest, no one suspected that he went there regularly. This was the place where Jaejoong promised to see him, the day after the new moon, his brother said, he would come to meet Junsu there.
They’d met twice there before, but last month Jaejoong didn’t show up and Junsu couldn’t trace the group.
Junsu was about to enter the village when he heard someone behind him, when he turned around, his eyes widened in shock.
“Hyuk?!”
Hyukjae was there, he looked perfectly healthy and unharmed.
“I thought you were dead!” Junsu exclaimed, Hyukjae stepped closer and Junsu scented something, “You-you’re an Omega …? How …?”
“Let’s talk somewhere safe”, Hyukjae said.
Junsu and Hyukjae went into the village, Junsu booked a room at the inn, he dismissed the curious innkeeper who looked at them curiously and added another coin to keep the innkeeper quiet.
Inside the room, Hyukjae closed the window and asked, “What’s going on? Where’s Jaejoong and Yunho?”
Junsu told Hyukjae about what happened, how Jaejoong and Yunho killed the Alpha Leader and the Elders.
“I don’t know where they are, I haven’t seen them since last month”, Junsu explained, then he told Hyukjae about the condition in the Silver Bane Clan and how a clan war was coming because the remaining Elders wouldn’t accept Jessica as the Alpha Leader, although she was an Alpha.
They didn’t consider Junsu as a potential leader because Junsu insisted on supporting Jessica’s leadership and Junsu was too young to be a leader.
“Do you know what Jaejoong and Yunho are up to?” Hyukjae asked.
“No, they never told me, they just told me to be careful and avoid the west forest”, Junsu answered.
Hyukjae thought about it for a moment, he never guessed the plan would lead them in this situation.
“Hyukjae … how come you’re an Omega now? And … you’re claimed?” Junsu asked again.
Hyukjae sighed, “On my last mission I was caught … they did something to me that turned me into an Omega, I suspect they were using the Moon Stone healing power … although I don’t know how they did it … I lost my memory and during that time I was married”.
“How did you get your memory back?”
“I … I miscarriage”.
Junsu was taken a back at the answer.
“I’m not mistreated or abused, they treat me nicely”, Hyukjae, realizing Junsu’s shock added, “But I have to find Jaejoong and Yunho, do you have any idea where they might be?”
Junsu shook his head, “I have no idea, Hyuk, they never told me”.
“I have to find them”, Hyukjae said, before Junsu said that he wanted to join the search, Hyukjae shook his head, “No, I need to find them myself, you’ll only slow me down”.
“But you’re an Omega now Hyuk”.
Hyukjae almost laughed at Junsu's concern. Living with a patriach clan like the Silver Bane, Hyukjae realized how wrong the things they were taught about male Omega. After experiencing being an Omega with his original conscience, Hyukjae could tell that he was still the same wolf although he was no longer an Alpha.
“Omega or Alpha, I’m still the best tracker”, Hyukjae gave his friend a reassuring smile, “Stay safe, Junsu”.
