Wasting Time

I suppose there is a whole host of things I could be doing at the moment, but really. I am one of 4 people in the lab today, so I just don't feel any real sense of urgency.

Of course, I showed up today and Phil was waiting outside my office to let me know that there was already a problem in production. I sighed and began looking for my keys as Phil explained the issue. Needless to say, I was quite annoyed by the plant employee's antics...but this is nothing new. This particular person is a nimrod with bad attitude. So, I spent an hour testing and re-testing and worrying about customer satisfaction and finally, I made the decision to gamble. Hopefully it will not come back to bite me in the ass.

So, now it's 9:15 and I feel like curling up under my desk and taking a nap. I was up somewhat late last night working on the last of my family holiday presents. I am pretty proud of everything. I managed to make some nice looking gift baskets for, I would say, less than $10 a piece. I have to say, the Dollar Store is awesome this time of year. I got a bunch of pretty nice baskets there that didn't seem like $1 quality, and they had wire ribbon and stuff like that, all much less than at a craft store. I think ultimately I spent about $160 on the jar/mug gifts and I got 8 big gifts and several small ones out of that. Not bad.

Today I'm supposed to be able to get out of here at 3pm. We'll see if production cooperates. Wes and I are then heading up to Colts Neck for Christmas Eve with his family. And, as we have done for the past several years, we'll spend the night and then head to my parents' place in the morning, first dropping off the dog. I think everyone on the Fenza side have been looking forward to this holiday. This year has been so hard with the loss of both Uncle Bobby and Larry. Their presence will be sorely missed. I can't quite believe that neither one is going to be there when we arrive. Yesterday evening I had a passing thought that I was looking forward to sitting down and having a drink with Bobby and then I had to remind myself that this wouldn't be happening. But everyone will be together and I think everyone is going to be happy to be joining together under happier circumstances. Wes bought a Bob Christmas ornament from What on Earth. They have an entire page of Bob related merchandise...just a bunch of stuff with Bob written on it. I don't really get it, but this year it was a nice thing to be able to buy. We're also making a picture ornament that has this great photo of Bob and Larry both with Santa hats on and giant grins. I figured it would be nice to have them there somehow, if only on the tree.

I also found an entry for the anual Ugliest Ornament contest that they have every year. I was so happy to find it (and of course, I found it because I wasn't specifically looking for a bad ornament). It is a pink elephant with strange swirling purple eyes on a sled and it is ridiculous. I, of course, really like it and kind of want to keep it for myself, but it's too good not to submit for judging. There's no prize really other than bragging rights of having an eye for ugly things...I can't believe I haven't won this in the past!

Wes and I exchanged presents last night. He got me an Aerogarden!!! Now I can have fresh herbs, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, or hot peppers all year round! I'm very excited. You can have them in the kitchen so fresh herbs and whatnot are right there. Awesome! I got him a Rip Sticks (or whatever its called) skateboard. It's one of the skateboards that you power rocking and swerving around. It's like an inline skate, but a board! He would never buy one for himself, but everytime we would see one at Target or something he would talk about how cool it was and he told me to get him a toy for Christmas, so there you go.

This has turned out to be much longer than I anticipated, but I just really don't want to do any work. Such is life, ey?
