Lost observations

If you don't watch the show Lost and you're not familiar with X-men, you probably won't get this at all.

I noticed some similarities between certain Lost characters and certain X-men characters. The dynamic between some of the principal Lost characters really reminds me of X-men. The writers have already stated that they're huge Star Wars fans so there are references all over the place. But I think they're X-men fans, too. Let's examine.

Jack = Cyclops / Scott Summers
Kate = Phoenix / Jean Grey
Sawyer = Wolverine / Logan (or James Howlett)
Locke = Professor X / Charles Xavier
Juliette = White Queen / Emma Frost
Ben = Magneto / Eric Lehnsherr

Why? Here are the parallels.

Jack and Cyclops are both natural leaders. They make the tough choices for the group and both seen as caring at times, assholes at others.

Kate and Jean are both the female leads of both groups and were romantically involved with the above leaders. Both are very tough on the inside, even if they seem fragile on the outside and have been through a lot. Neither are afraid of doing what needs to be done in order to protect those they love. Jean sacrificed herself several times for the good of all and Kate has risked her life to save Jack's and Sawyer's.

Sawyer and Wolverine, first off, share the same real first name, James. Yet both go by an alias (Sawyer and Logan). They're both rough, tough, scrappy, and are vicious fighters. Rarely following the rules, they do their own own things and yet they still work for the overall good of the team. Also, they both had a romantic affair as part of a love triangle with the above females.

Juliette and Emma Frost are both blondes who were once members of the enemy side, but they came over to the "good" side. There's a similar love quadrangle as Juliette became Jack's new love interest and Emma became Scott's new love interest.

Locke and Professor X are both bald, older men of wisdom and faith. Both have acted as mentors to younger people and are both natural leaders, but in a grander, more profound way than Jack and Cyclops. When Locke got on the plane, he was paralyzed and in a wheelchair, but he was cured once he crashed on the island. Professor X has always been paralyzed in a wheelchair.

Ben and Magneto are both villains in their respective universes, but they believe that they have a righteous cause and that the ends justify the means. Both have formed an equal bond and hatred of the bald man of faith. Locke joined up with The Others (Ben's group) for a while and bonded with Ben, although Ben eventually betrayed him. Magneto and Professor X were friends and colleagues, but they eventually became bitter rivals over different philosophical ideals. Magneto has worked with the X-men before and has also recruited some of their members for his cause. This season of Lost looks to show Ben possibly cooperating better with the Oceanic Survivors as their goals are now somewhat compatible.

If you seen any other parallels, let me know!
