Bit of a Catch-Up Post

Aug 22, 2010 22:45

Since, yanno, I've been "away" for the past three weeks or so--

Been watching tons of movies and doing tons of shopping. My goal lately has been to catch my friends up on good sci-fi and classic sci-fi movies, so we watched Aliens last week and Terminator II night before last, which then prompted my mission to find a copy of the first movie because we didn't have it yet.

That took me to Wal-mart, where I found they had a lot of DVDs I wanted for pretty damn cheap. SO. On top of my finding The Terminator, I got Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the Secret of NIMH, Speed (shut up I love this movie so hard), the Riddick Trilogy (shut up I love the monsters in Pitch Black), Whip It, Terminator Salvation (CHEKOV IS KYLE REESE. It wasn't enough for me to see the film in theaters, but on DVD? HELLS YES MY LIFE IS GOOD.), The Invincible Iron Man (it's an animated thing. shush), and Pandorum.

I've also bought more books and more comics. The books included Feed by Mira Grant, The Forever War by Joe Haldeman, Dead Space: Martyr by BK Evenson, and The Quiet War by Paul McAuley. My Dad also lent me his copy of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson, because I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a few weeks back. Thinking I might get a few related reviews/meta posts up, because nothing makes me think about writing like reading a book. XD;;;

...The comics were all Green Lantern. XD;;; I figure if I can't enjoy Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool yet (no news on whether the movie is all dead or if they want to recast or if Mr. Reynolds is gonna fight the good fight for his part), I might as well enjoy him in Green Lantern, and because I can I wanted to know a bit more about the characters before I went into the movie. We'll see if that warps things for me, since it's been a while since I saw a movie based on a book/comic/tv show after reading the source material.

Today I started catching up with TV. I'm not as far behind on White Collar or Royal Pains as I thought - I've been lucky enough to catch the new episodes when I've gone home each weekend. Seems like I'm actually ahead at the moment (Hulu has an 8-day delay for all of USA's shows, which I don't mind though it does mean I don't get to squee on the same calendar as everyone else). Season finales all happen this week, I think, but I won't get to see them until next week, sob. Oh well. Caught up with Lie to Me, as well, and I need to see if I can still catch up on Drop Dead Diva (guilty pleasures FOR THE WIN.)

Almost caught up on Eureka - it's on an 8 day delay on Hulu, too, so I won't see the newest episode until after Friday. :/ But all of the other episodes are FANTASTIC - Momstrocity is probably my current favorite for the two brilliant James Cameron Film quotes (Fargo's "Come with me if you want to live" and Allison's "Get away from [him] you bitch!" I squeed really hard over the first and danced at the second, since I just watched BOTH of those movies lately. FFFFFFFFffffff I am awesome like that, what can I say.)

Still no roommate. The thing with Erin fell through a few weeks back so I'm still alone at the moment. I...was disappointed, because I really was looking forward to having company AND to get rid of some of the financial burden, but shit happens. And I don't mind living alone. I just get to kiss the money in my bank goodbye.

Classes start tomorrow. I'm hoping to drop one of the buggers so I can work more hours at the internship. I should be able to, but I want to be sure I can do so and still graduate in May. (22 credits to get me out of here. 22. I AM SO CLOSE I CAN TASTE IT.)

I also helped paint a friend's house week before last, went and saw Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, did a lot of driving (I love driving, but I am so sick of doing it I could scream), lost sleep, had dreams about spiders again, and started planning my NaNoWriMo for this year (notes on which will come up in another post). In between all of that I did a lot of hanging out with friends, eating, playing with animals, sleeping, working, and socializing.

Whew. I guess that wasn't so much a summary as an EPIC, but whatevs. You guys know I'm verbose. X3

In closing, have a meme!

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your LJ and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.

The more outlandish the better, guys. And the more fandom you infuse in it the better. >3
