The life I have chosen for myself-- the life that I've been wanting for years, and finally (finally, dear god, finally!) made happen-- this life is wonderful. And it's only the beginning, and in a few months it will be so much MORE wonderful.
And this life, which I have chosen for myself with eyes and heart open, is a life where I will have the opportunity to live out some of the fantasies fandom has given me. It is a life of fluidity, of boundaries shifting like shorelines, of boys and girls and both and neither. It is a life where sex is celebrated, respected, and honest. A life where biology is not destiny. A life where names and pronouns do not, in fact, always tell you what's in people's pants. And where that isn't really anything that makes any difference.
Is this related to fandom?
Fandom is the "better world" I've always looked to with envy in some ways. And the life I am now living is the closest approximation to those worlds I may be able to find in this place, in this time. Fandom is where I've explored my desires, my wants, my needs, my confusions, and my frustrations. Fandom is why I can articulate them now.
