Excuse me for a moment while I dust myself off and blow away all the cobwebs on this journal. A couple of months ago, I started regularly posting a journal again online, on MySpace and a couple of other sites. Mostly I just write one post a day, copy it, and paste in 3 diffent journals, for 2 reasons:
1) When it comes to my writing, I self-promote as eagerly and as shamelessly as P.T. Barnum. Even if its only some meaningless online journal floating in cyberspace, I'll still pimp it out. It doesn't matter if my whores are young and fresh-faced or old and worn, I'm all about moving my product.
2) I know several people on each of the sites that only frequent those sites, so for the purpose of networking, letting people know I'm alive, etc etc, posting in different places seems the simplest solution. So if any of you readers check out my profile and follow the MySpace link, don't expect a different post in my blog.
Frankly, I almost forgot I had this journal. So I figure: fuck it, may as well put it to good use.
And now, time for a quick updated personal history, for all the peeps I have out there I've lost touch with:
Back in May, I moved out of my place in Scottsdale and got an apartment in Phoenix with my friend Grant, the most effete heterosexual ice skater currently in Arizona. The moving day was a bit nightmarish, because we got an apartment on the 3rd floor, and we had two mattresses, two long sofas, 2 bookcases, and my 28 boxes of books and DVDs to move up those horrible three flights of stairs. In the withering summer heat. It was worth the effort, though: the rent is reasonable, and my digs are spacious (maybe not palatial, but its definitely roomy in here).
I quit working at Harkins Theaters back in October of '05. I hung up my broom and suspenders and haven't looked back since (although I will admit that I REALLY miss the free movie benefits, especially since I didn't realize just how much ticket prices have gone up since I started working at the theater, back in the misty days of yore when I just graduated from high school). I now work full-time at Half Price Books. The pay isn't anything spectacular, but the work is steady, my co-workers are a blast to hang out with, the insurance is insanely good, I get killer employee discounts, and I now have my self-respect (dignity and pride for one's work can be lacking in janitorial work, which is essentially what being a Harkins broom-monkey is).
The last several months have had their shares of ups and downs. On the up side: made a lot of new online acquantices, I've settled into a comfortable life of independence for the first time in my existence, I've forged a deep connection with my biological father and my little brother Elliot (I even visited the Briettas, my long-lost biological family on my dad's side, last year on a fantastic trip to the south of France) and I've been exposed to a lot of incredible books, films, and music. The downside: back in August I came down with a nasty case of Bronchitis that fucked me up good and proper for most of August and half of September. I still need to get into better shape. I'm broke most of the time. My mother has gotten a bit crazy since the divorce, and since she and my brother Greg no longer speak to each other, the burden of being her only connection to blood-kin falls to me. Oy vey.
And that, ladies and gents, is a brief nutshell account of my life in the time since I've last posted on LJ. Admittedly, its not a particularly eventful life (for now) and certainly not the stuff that would inspire a killer biography.
*shrugs*
But that is how things are with me at the moment. I'll post more later this evening, after I get back from work, drop off my rent check, and curl up on the couch with something good to watch and/or read.
Good evening, good morning, and good luck to the rest of you kooks out there,
Ash
