[video] 01; first exploration

[The video feed to Afonso's communicator cuts on with a noise of something being shifted around and banged; the sight of Afonso's fingers coming back from the top of the communicator as he attempts to fiddle with it come first, then his face, lips pursed as if he was skeptical. The parchment is clutched to his chest, and he looks down at it again ( Read more... )

[The screen shows a cheerful blond with a wide smile. His voice blares through the speakers.]

Hey-heeeey! No way! Portugal!? Man, I haven't seen you in, like, what? Forever?! How you been, dude?! I totally didn't expect you to drop in this place! Ha ha ha ha! Looks like you got roped into this crazy set up, too, huh?! I got no clue who your role guy is, but no worries! You've got a hero like me watchin' your back! [He gives Portugal a thumbs up.]

[.....who the hell are you, and how do you know my name.]

....Right.

[Now that he thinks about it, he does look vaguely familiar. But the last time Portugal saw America, he was not even up to his knee and clinging to the back of England's leg. He squints. What is this slang you're speaking.]

....Pardon my rudeness, but. Do I know you?

[America's smile disappears and is replaced with a confused slack-jaw and blinking.]

Oh, ow, cold response, bro! I mean, sure you do! Ha ha ha ha, don't tell me you forgot someone as awesomely talented, amazing, and handsome as me! It hasn't been that long has- oh... [It looks as if something mental just clicked into place.] Hey, Portugal, what year is it over there, dude?

...1688. [What a strange kid. He's got the distinct vibe of nation on him, and Portugal's brows knit together as he does in fact come upon the solution.] --You're...that colony of Inglaterra's, are you not? That has to be it--I've brought Luciano to meet you before.

[Huh.]

Strange, I recall you barely being up to my knee...

[America gives him a nervous laugh. Oh, dude, looks like this Portugal's from the past like England and Prussia. Okay, not-messing-up-the-future plan is still in effect. Got it. Act normal.]

Whoa, time sure flies by fast, huh?! I mean, uh, I grew up pretty quick! I bet it was England's crazy food! That guy sure makes some weird stuff, right?! Also, uh, England said the same thing when he saw me like this! [He's holding a hand up to the height of his head.] Guess colonies just sprout overnight! Ha ha ha ha! S-so, you all settled in yet, dude?

[...Alright then. Portugal shrugs his shoulders as the other starts rambling; although he has to wonder what his own children must be like..]

Ah...huh. I suppose so, for all intents and purposes. I have spoken with a few others since arriving, and made a bit of a home for myself. Although--there's a strange humming noise coming from the large box across the way, and I haven't a clue what half of the things in this room even are.

[America looks pensive for a moment then laughs again.]

Oh, yeah! Guess that stuff would be kinda weird if you're not used to 'em yet! I mean, uh, hey, I can totally show you how everything works around here! No worries! I bet the guys who tossed us here didn't want us straining ourselves just trying to do daily stuff so they loaded up rooms with whatever we need. Bet you still pump your own water or whatever, right? Wait till you see the kitchen, Port!

That would be quite helpful. [Afonso is as always, a bit wary to trust, but in a place like this, a nation is a nation. His face relaxes into a grateful smile.]

I would like that, in fact--I'm not positive as to where all this...humming is coming from, and how I cook, for that matter. I'm hungry.
