this still isn't the happy post, it's ABOUT THE BEATLES.

No not THE Beatles exactly. The Pinnoy Beatles.

If you're reading this, consider yourself on assignment, as of now. The restraining order was just a joke, put yourself to good use for a change. Find me the Filipino Beatles. Please. Somewhere out there, exists a cassette of a cover band doing a dead on impersonation of the real Beatles, only in Tagalog. It is by far the greatest recording ever made, because well...imagine if the Beatles ever rocked the Manilla Beat theme song.... and for all two of you who probably got that reference, I'll take a deep breath and stop to explain that Manilla Beat was a city station sorta early Cable Accesss talk show that came on after the Evangilist Wrestling program out of Texas (David & Kerry & Mike Von Erich RIP)...and anyway the theme song went something catchy like this...ready? .... it went Maaaaanilla Manillllllaa WOAH OHOH Maaanilla Manillllllaaaaa Woah OHOH.... trust me, whip that out at the next Bay Area Karoake jam and all the ladies will be asking you out to Serra Bowl. Now backup. It was around the age of 13 when I figured out a way to exploit my Asian friends....which was pretty much all the friends I had in the Ingleside Terrace/Westwood Highlands region of San Francisco. So you'd keep your ears open for the guy who thought it was hysterical to refer to himself as "fresh off the plane" and start digging through his parents record collection. Anything that wasn't 2 Live Crew, or Debbie Deb was so shameful, he'd be sure to give you every single record you could find that didn't involve a drum clap. But lay off the Barry White. Don't even fuck with the Otis Redding. That was Grandpa's. Anyway, I ended up inheriting all sorts of heavy psych records, and mono copies of Hendrix. Most of them were pretty beat up from their older brothers mobile dj crew learning how to scratch records. Once I'd wiped out all my friend Leslie's vinyl, he pulled out a special little cassette that he knew I had to hear. The Filipino Beatles. The greatest recording I've ever heard. I became obsessed. Eventually he got so sick of me coming over to eat lumpia, and listen to "Twist N' Shout" that he gave me the tape. Two years later I lent it to some girl and never got the darn thing back. I'm sure it's a favorite at the family BBQ's in Vacaville, but I'd have to catch them in the act to reclaim my tape. That's why I'm putting the word out. Starting now. Into the cosmos it goes, and remember where you heard about it first. Peer to peer sharing, your grandparents record collections... I don't care where you find it.... I don't care if it becomes the next thing, and Urban Outfitters starts selling Filipino Beatles shirts, and and and then they reunite, become huge and headline the MTV Awards...or um, at least the moving boat at the polynesian themed Tonga room where it rains indoors....I just want it. Bring me the head of the Filipino Beatles!!!!!! (and some lumpia, and some of that purple taro root buttercream log cake stuff). The NEXT post is the HAPPY POST.
