Dropping a line...

Jul 01, 2014 20:43

How's everything? I thought I'd drop you a line since it's been about a year, and I'd like to keep in touch to let you know how the skills I developed through group supervision have been blooming. I often think of you in my work and the many lessons I learned through my clients, owing much to your fierce dedication to supervision.

I'm currently finishing a 1-year substance use counseling internship at the SF AIDS Foundation called the Stonewall Project. The clients are adult men who identify as gay or bisexual. It would be an understatement to say that they sort of reminded me of the 12- and 13-year-old clients I dealt with at BACR.

I've also been working full-time as a case manager at the Mission Neighborhood Resource Center here in San Francisco since February. It is one of the few drop-in centers for homeless adults in the Bay Area. Aside from doing drop-in counseling and case management, I've been gaining experience with writing psychiatric evaluations and doing outreach and home visits at various SRO residential hotels in the community. I end up doing "street therapy" on a regular basis and incorporate expressive arts into the work as often as possible.

I cannot thank you enough for all the wealth of knowledge and experience you gave tirelessly during our year together.

I hope the year went well for all of you. Have a wonderful summer!

Truly,
John Hanig, MA, MFTi #80206
