I would venture with little doubt that Akumaro has something to do with this.
Two reasons.
The first, and most blatantly obvious, is that Hikari Hoshi spoke of how she and this person MET him. They didn't know who he was or his intentions at the time, but he... followed them.
Hoshi didn't know if he'd DONE anything, but given this... I'd say odds are good.
Beyond that, the second reason... In my world, there are creatures below the most powerful Gedoushu called "Ayakashi." They are sent out as foot soldiers and generals to further their masters' goals.
This one came sometime BEFORE Akumaro, but we once fought an Ayakashi who created a situation precisely like this. To the letter, almost, up to and including taking the soul of someone from our team.
I would stake almost anything that this is the work of Akumaro.
And moreover, he's being obvious about it. I further almost think he's baiting us, my team.

Understandable.
The fact that one of your own has been attacked, and not others, given the frequency and ease that's apparent, troubles me though... If Ryuunosuke-kun, not the rest of you?

Akumaro wouldn't focus JUST on us, of course. But the way things have fallen, I can't help but think that is him. There's more places for him to spread his attention, but at some point he's going to strike at us.
As I said, he's trying for something beyond what we're seeing. That is something we'll have to figure out as we go.
However, keep in mind - as a Gedoushu, he'd be unlikely to just take us - or any given group - all out in one fell swoop so easily. If you read my information, you know he feeds on pain and misery.
What better way to do that than to see one of your own die with their friends being unable to do anything?

Indeed.
All said, though, I'm not ready to rule out other factors. Especially considering our so-called "villain community." That doesn't discount what you said, but there's certainly a great deal that could also be going on.

First off, he's a prime suspect, Shiba-san.
What I am saying here is that while focusing on him, we should keep our eyes open for any other possible suspects or potential allies that he might have. Thankfully, we have a sizable amount of people interested here.
And yes, we do. Someone in particular comes to mind... one of our agents, in fact.
Harlaown-san. Do you remember the threat assessment that I sent you and Silverwing a few days ago?

He's made himself too obvious, and Akumaro never does anything without a set goal.
Undoubtedly, he's playing at something beyond simply trying to kill us. Though, most importantly, would be finding him first, of course.

His focus seems mixed...

That all said, then, though... it then becomes a matter of figuring how to flush him out.

Akumaro wouldn't have acted so obviously before around this person without intent.
It IS him.
At the very least, is there anyone that can, in any way, sense astral or demonic energies?

I have ... seen what this does to the loved ones of those affected...
...
But, I see. That could be good, then.
