"Happy" VD, indeed.
Valentine's Day is a holiday invented by the following industries:
- chocolatiers
- de Beers & other diamond-peddlers (aka Satan)
- florists
- greeting cards
Etc. I view it with the same deep and abiding suspicion that I view Mother's Day, Father's Day and all these other modern holidays.
I, who wear pink and red at least 50% of the time the rest of the year, generally wear black on Valentine's Day. I'm actively annoyed that I forgot to NOT wear my red velour hoodie this year. (My chiropractor, who shares my love of novelty socks, asked if I had any VD socks. I told her I did - at least, I count my adorable Nick & Nora monkey heart ones from Target as appropriate - but that I would be least likely to wear them today.)
And no, this is not bitterness from being newly single (c.f. my last post). I've pretty much always disdained VD even when I had a boyfriend to get pressured into giving me useless sentimental crap.
