hello again.

well, here's the thing:
i have to write a sort of research paper for school, in music class. and the cool thing is, that i can choose my own subject. well, i decided to write a paper on indie rock & its origins. we also have to provide 3-4 examples (which is one of the most impossible things to do.. only 4 songs?!! no way..) but that's besides the point.
anyway, this made me think and i decided to ask all of you for advice on some stuff.
there are just a few questions i'd like to ask to get your opinions.

- what is the best song by the strokes? ok, name the top 3. heh. (i guess this one's for you, sonja! ;P)
- how indie are the following bands/artists? (on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being 'you can't get any more indie than that, b*tch!'. lol.)
and by indie i mean the general sound they have.
  • orson
  • juliette and the licks
  • wolfmother
  • queens of the stone age ..and eagles of death metal while we're on the subject..
  • U2
  • blondie
  • a-ha
  • placebo
  • jimmy eat world (they're emo but can they fit under the indie category?)
  • the ramones
  • the clash
  • train
  • röyksopp
  • goldfrapp
  • lily allen
  • dido
  • garbage
    - now, i have 2 songs for you to listen to and i want you to tell me if they in fact can pass for indie or are they more christian rock/pop/contemporary music (because that's how they describe themselves).
they're by an estonian singer/songwriter ewert sundja and his band thief
ewert sundja & thief- sleeping with the sun
ewert sundja & thief- twist and shout
    - are there any 'significant' and 'worth mentioning' female indie artists/female fronted indie bands that you can name other than
the pipettes, the sounds, regina spektor, the zutons, belle & sebastian, rilo kiley, tegan and sara, yeah yeah yeahs, imogen heap, portishead, the cranberries, metric, the raveonettes..

hmm. i guess that's it for the moment. i'll ask again if i can think of something else. ;)
    thanks!
