God Save the Queen

In honor of the royal wedding, a few of the numbers I like from the classic MGM musical Royal Wedding. (I don't recommend watching the entire film though, as the plot and characters are really quite bad, and the numbers are the only good part. There are some amusing Narm Charm moments though, like the "unintentional players romance" concept between Jan and Peter was amusing, a love confession made over the din of a bagpipes parade, and telephone conversations between Keenan Wynn and himself, as a New Yorker and a Brit. XD "Pip boy? Dig You?" XD

The first of the numbers in this film to play with gravity, to hilarious results here. This film must have had one of the largest film budgets to build two tilting sets, and with such extravagance as well. I should do a "classic soproanos" pimp post at some point, because there are definitely some Jane Powell numbers I'd like to link.

Cheesy isn't always bad, when it's poking fun at cheese.
Who needs camera cuts when you can have a single take full-body shot? That did really piss me off about Let's Stand Up, both the video and MuBank perf. They're fucking tap-dancing, their fucking feet should be in the fucking shot at all times! Fucking Korean cameramen, obsessed with their quick cuts and swoops and mid-body shots obscuring the footwork!

One of the greatest numbers in film history. The logistics of building such a set and time the rotations to fit the choreography are enormous, and it's because of this number that I did the biggest 8D when I saw the fight scene in Inception.
I love how he jumps while on the ceiling for a total mindfulck, before hanging off of the chair, still upside-down, and then grabbing the photo off of the desk. Magnetic frame and metal panel in the desk?

After the previous numbers, it seems that any subsequent numbers would be anticlimactic. So MGM pulled out all of the stops with lots of bright colors, a gigantic set complete with moving setpieces, the MGM conveyor belt, and A LIVE MONKEY, lots of extras, and, you know, actual hats in Haiti. *side-eyes lack of Taxi or a man in Mr. Taxi*
