I havn't posted what I've been reading about all day long at work in awhile, mainly because I havn't had the time to do it. I just finished up a big project I'd been working on, and am back to having a lot of spare time.
So what did I read about today? Most of it revolved around DRM and privacy rights. With a little bit of cogsci things thrown in.
BoingBoing Article on the Sony DRM fiasco going on. They provide a nice summary and a timeline of everything thats been going on. If you're not familiar with whats been happening with Sony-BMG's audio CD's DRM start reading here. It'll get you caught up to date, and hopefully enraged.
Boalt IP Blog article talking about the Sony problem as well.
USA Today article about a protest staged by NYU's
FreeCulture chapter. It touches on the Sony story as well. I thought it was a well written article that provides a much needed overview of the bigger picture. The copyfight is going on, read about it, and get involved.
The EFF wrote this letter to Sony about their DRM.
The EFF again! This time in a rant about xerox's (and other printers) practice of printing mini-dots on every page printed which identifies the printer that printed the document. The rant touches on the overall loss of personal privacy in the growing digital age, and our need to be proactive about stopping the privacy invasion.
LiveScience article about meditation, and how it might actually increase the amount of grey matter in your brain. Its always fun to read things that I learned in classes. The abstract for the study this article is based on can be found
here And finally ...
Everything I Know is a transcription (original audio included) of the 42 hour long lecture series by
Richard Buckminster Fuller. The parts I've read so far have been interesting, and I definitely plan on finishing the whole thing within the next two weeks.
