This dream probably took a page or two out of watching Coraline recently...
Anyways, the main character was a little boy. There was something special about him, but I can't remember what, and the military sort of 'wanted' him for some reason. The military was run by this older fellow in a brown uniform/flight jacket. He kept trying to 'catch the little boy. So, his best friend, a girl who lived in a tall, somewhat run down two-story white house with a big front window, showed him a place he could go to 'escape'. So she opened a cabinet and inside was a little box. When you looked hard at it, it transported you to another world. Inside the other world, things became the way you wish them to be. So the boy wished it to rain skittles. It did. For the most part, he didn't use the powers of the world. He just stayed there now and again to get away from running from the people chasing him.
Then, it all seemed to change. The military guys found their way into his world, not knowing exactly what it was. So, he, and the little girl, began pelting them with all sorts of oddities. While the military was distracted, they want back to the real world and tried to find a way to somehow defuse the situation. Another little boy, kind of pudgy looking, seemed to have some sort of limited mindreading and said that the military guy kept thinking of a woman's name. So they started going through every name they could think of until finally settling on the name Chloe. This seemed to mean something to the girl.
So, they lead the military guy out of the 'special world' and trapped him without his cohorts in the girl's house. And what the boy revealed was a piece out of the military guy's memories (perhaps that's his power?). The scene was a younger version of the man, in the arms of a woman he loved but was torn away from. Their last parting moment on a high hillside overlooking the city at dusk before he went away to the military. She had been older than he was, and their relationship was frowned upon by the townsfolk. They'd never see each other again after that. The girl looked between her mother and the old man. The mother admitted that she was Chloe. The old man denied it, but then the boy asked them about how old they were. The age difference was right. Chloe explained that she had thought he died in the war, and she had moved on. The little girl being the result.
I started becoming lucid at this point, but the mother took the man's hand and lead him back to the little box, taking him through it to show him what life would have been like had he stayed. I don't think it really resolved why he was chasing the boy in the first place. And, by that point, I was realizing that the 'special world' was somewhat a lucid dreaming point. So I started butting into my own dream trying to force it to show me what I wanted it to.
... So I made
diamondmx appear and snatched a hug.
I woke up after that. My brain doesn't let me control my dreams for too long.
