Long overdue update...

Jul 18, 2004 22:57

This journal entry is dedicated to Evan, who said to me, "it's been over a month since you updated the LJ..i'm gonna need an update soon." So, here you go! (By the way, are we ever going to hang out now that you live in my neck of the woods?? :-))

Things have been pretty busy, mostly just by the mere fact that work takes up nearly 10 hours of everyday, I generally try to get 8 hours of sleep so I don't end up completely exhausted like every other past summer, which only leaves a few hours in which I generally 1) have dinner 2)try to work out 3) watch some tv or the rarer 4) hang out with my friends. A few exciting things have happened lately, I'll try to recap.

First, the work stories. I have lots of lilttle stories from work -- my kids are so cute and so psycho that I usually end up with some pretty entertaining stories! However, my most exciting story is the day that I was secretly picked by my boss to do the fire drill. She asked me to do a little work up front for a little while, so I sat down to do my assignment (thankful from a little break from the kids!) and very shortly a man in a military uniform handed me a fire drill card that read something to the extent of "you smell something electrical burning and you see smoke. Act accordingly." I was stunned. I looked at my co-worker, and he gave me a look like, "I can't help you!" So I picked up the phone to dial 911 but realized I needed to pull the building alarm first. So I ran around the desk to pull the box (which was so fun, I had never done that before!) and I called 911 to let them know we were having a fire drill (also something I had never done). I was very proud of myself that I reacting correctly for the situation, even though my legs were shaking and my heart was pounding the whole time!! But then, in classic girl-fashion, as I was walking out the door, my eyes filled with tears from adreneline-overload!! I'm such a girl :-P It was definitely an interesting situation, because no one's actual physical safety was involved, the only thing that was on the line was my boss's proper training techniques. But, I passed!
Also, last week we went on a field trip to the Boston Duck Tours and I witnessed an accident between my Duck Boat and a car, so I filled out a witness card just to cover the Duck Driver, but I got a call on Friday about it. I hope I don't have to go to court or anything...
Anyway, I also have other funny work stories, but they're better in person.... so when you hang out with me, you'll get an earful about my funny little kids!! :-)

I've really been trying to get in better shape since I've been home... I've starting running my neighborhood after work, and I have made vast improvements, but my numbers are still pretty pathetic! I've also been trying to be concious of my intake, but its so tough when the food at work is sooooooooo good! So, I've decided to stop beating myself up over it, but I'm still going to try to just be aware of intakes and outputs :-)

I have also done some interesting stuff in the last few weeks.... I went to the Madonna concert with Carolyn and Christine and it was AMAZING. I wasn't a huge Madonna fan before I went (I mean, I enjoy her radio hits, I was a fan, just not a BIG fan), but I was totally into the concert when I was there -- out of my seating dancing and everything!! I definitely have a new respect for Madonna. (See my yahoo pictures) Lisa's 21st birthday was (finally) a couple of weeks ago, and I was really happy that I was able to celebrate with her! And I'm definitely psyched that she's can come out with us now! (Also see yahoo pictures). My Fourth of July weekend pretty much blew with the exception of Michelle's party (See yahoo pictures again), so I don't really want to talk about that. Last weekend, Friday night I had dinner at Carrabba's with Chirstine and Leanne, and then spent the night with Christine at the house she was housesitting. Then, Saturday afternoon I headed down to Marshfield to Meryle's family's beach house for her graduation party with the UConners. It was really really really nice to see all of the girls again, I was so happy to see everyone. We had some good (inebriated) fun, I hope it won't be too long before we can all get together again. (By the way, congratulations to both Kate and Meredith for getting full-time grown-up jobs!!!!!)
This weekend I went to Yarmouth, Maine with Kevin, Annie, Chris, and Sarah for the Clam Fest. Yarmouth is Kevin's hometown, so Friday night when we got there he turned us right around to his brother's place where they were having a massive kegger. Now, I can't say that I've actually been to a "Kegger" until this point, it was so classic -- 6 kegs finished my midnight, 150 people (almost all from Yarmouth High School at one point or another) milling around the yard, the house, and the basement. It was definitely fun even though we knew almost no one -- however, I did run into 2 girls I went to camp with years and years ago, crazy!! Saturday, we went to the Clam Fest for lunch and perused the craft fair, then had dinner with Kevin's family -- they fed us lobster, what else?!? That night we went into Portland and bar hopped a bit in the Old Port, but we were pretty tired so we didn't stay out too long. Sunday (I guess that was today!!) the ladies headed into Freeport to hit the outlets for a bit. I did some serious damage, but got some really nice pieces to "adultify" my wardrobe. We then headed home, they all had dinner here before heading to Connecticut. I'm still on my Maine-high, I had an AMAZING amount of fun this weekend, I really enjoyed everyone's company. :-)

Well, I guess this entry has gotten long enough... I'll try to post more often, I suppose!
Everyone, really, please keep in touch, I would really like to see people I don't get to see very often, especially since I'm moving to Rhode Island in a little over a month. Call me!

Happy now, Evan? :-)
