A couple months ago, you may recall, the back window shattered in my new Mustang. For those not keeping score at home (which should probably be most of you), the tl;dr version of that was, "We can't tell that it didn't break from external trauma, so the policy of Ford is we can't replace it under warranty. We'd be able to replace it for you if we, say, found a problem with the widget that lowers the window when you open and close the door that reduces pressure, but that appears to be working fine." And so I paid for a new rear window.
So, as you might expect, the driver's side window is now having issues. Wouldn't go down on Sunday when we went to Easter dinner. While that problem went away, now it'll drop a little when you open the door but won't go back up. Basically, the window's gone all manner of goofy. So I made an appointment to get the car dealt with-- this time at the Ford dealer near the office instead of the one near the house.
As I talked with the Service Manager, he mused, "Huh. Ourisman Honda had this car in here for a similar problem. We couldn't find any trouble at the time."
I found that statement fascinating. "That's odd," I said, "When I bought the thing, the reporting agencies like Carfax claimed the car had never been in for service."
The Service Manager explained that when there's no service done to the vehicle, the record of the service never gets pushed back to Ford Corporate. Since no trouble was found, no service was done, so no bill needed to be paid by the mothership, so they never got any record of it.
So basically, I found out two months later that the one thing that Ford Service would've authorized a warranty window glass replacement for was in fact a problem with my car, and not only that, a different Ford dealership actually knew about the issue, but since the dealerships don't talk to each other, nobody knew that my problem was something their policy said they were indeed supposed to solve.
My plan is to open a polite dialog with the service manager when I pick up the car and see if there's anything that can be done here...
