Alaska news release
" Ft Hamlin fire located approx ten miles north of Yukon crossing on the dalton highway at mile 66 has increased to approximatly 1,000 acres..."
were at mile 56. the skys glowing orange and smoke makes it hard to see about 1/3 mile.
Our mgr let me borrow his car and we drove down to where the smokejumpers are setting up to look, couldnt see actual flames yet but lots of smoke plums. Theres a chance I wont be able to go on my hike up by prudhoe bay tomorrow if the fire jumps the road :(
side note: Alaska State fair is here and the SCA had a big ad that theyde be fightin' there. If my trip gets cancelled north I guess I COULD go south to the fair.
