this is short and totally irrelevant, but I wrote it

“No, Aiba, I don’t think we’re anything like a family on vacation,” Nino sighs, giving the back of Aiba’s seat a kick.

Sho smiles at Aiba’s tiny surprised noise. It’s a nice change to have someone around who’s actually capable of disagreeing with him.

“Aw, come on,” Aiba continues, a Twizzler dangling from the corner of his mouth. “Sho’s the dad and I’m the mom and you’re our bratty little kid!”

“A family like ours would be incredibly unhealthy,” Sho thinks aloud, frowning at the endless stretch of flat road ahead.

“If anything, we’re a pack of wild dogs,” Nino says, leaning over Aiba’s shoulder to grab another handful of M&Ms.

“I like that!” Aiba exclaims, all but clapping his hands. “Sho’s our pack leader, then. Ah, that could be your nickname! Leader!”

“I’m not calling Sho ‘Leader,’” Nino snorts. “That is the gayest nickname ever.”

Aiba goes on to claim that he was known as the King of Nicknames in his hometown, which Nino says is even gayer than "Leader." Sho thinks of the names he had in his hometown and decides that whatever Aiba wants to call him can’t be too bad.

He doesn’t realize that he’s tuned out their argument until the car is quiet. He glances in the rearview mirror and sees Nino sprawled across the backseat, sleeping with his arms crossed. Aiba leans against the window, twitching unconsciously, more like a puppy than a wild dog.

Sho turns his eyes back to the road. At some point it has to bend again.

Driving these two across the countryside while they sleep, Sho does feel a bit like their pack leader. It’s strange, he thinks, escaping one set of responsibilities just to fall backwards into another, but taking care of Aiba and Nino isn't a burden. It can be annoying and overwhelming, but, at the end of the day, Sho doesn't feel he's being taken advantage of. He just feels needed.
