I read a good aticle about that whole situation on the Juxtapoz site awhile back-- it's such a weird phenomenon that's out of control because of the internet. I understand inspiration, I understand taking bits of things and adding them to your own mix, I don't understand outright stealing, though.

I've been reading what I can about the whole deal for about two weeks now, trying to find as many unbiased articles as I can. I always want to give the artist the benefit of the doubt. But Judas Priest! Following another artist's style is one thing, but I've really not be able to see any significant differences in Goldman's work and the alleged source material. Which is why I finally decided to offer up my two cents on the subject, as both an artist and a curator.

Heh... I'd be interested to see a Nubbified version of this meme...

but mainly I wanted to respond to your subject line with...

"GRRR! ARRGH!"

You did see it on Urbaniak's LJ. And you forwarded it to me, which is how I first heard about the whole Goldman debacle. 'Cuz you're awesome!

His original post (http://sirive.livejournal.com/145933.html) just went up yesterday, to be followed rather rapidly by the meme-thread today.

No one had better even THINK about stealing a poem from me. :( I hope that my LJ publications copyright them.

While I'm no expert, I wouldn't bet the farm on it. You should look into copyright law, esp. for intellectual property available on the web. You might also just use the Poor Man's Copyright on your poetry as an ad hoc solution (i.e. mail your poetry to yourself & leave it unopened).
