Chapter 11- The Fire Talisman (Part 3)

It was Christmas, and the boys spent the rest of their holidays at Sho's mansion since Sho was in a festive mood. A giant evergreen tree stood at the center of Sho's massive ballroom. The great chandeliers lit the ballroom in its golden light. Streamers of gold, green, and red traced around the room, and floating musical notes filled the hall with music of Christmas melodies.

Sho's father held a grand party, and guests arrived the mansion in elegant cloaks and gowns. Sho provided appropriate dress robes for Ohno, Aiba, Nino, and Jun. Ohno dressed in a dark and glamorous blue robe. Aiba spun in a fitting green robe. Nino looked a little embarrassed wearing a yellow dress robe, but Aiba cheered him up that it looked like gold. Jun stared down at his dark purple dress robe, feeling his heart swell as Sho smoothed the wrinkles from Jun's shoulders.

"You look handsome, Matsujun," Sho smirked, looking great in a fiery red dress robe.

"Sho," Jun moaned, feeling his heart skip.

"Oh! I see girls!" Ohno gasped, peaking around the doors. "Who are they?"

"Probably daughters of the officials that worked with my father," Sho said, waving his hands like they're nothing. Nino nudged Sho in the ribs.

"Bet I can snatch all the hot girls tonight before you, SakuSho," Nino teased. This set Sho off.

"I like to see you try! Nino-kins," Sho glared, but Nino wasn't afraid.

"I'll bet five Galleons Sho will win," Aiba whispered to Ohno and Jun.

"Ten on Nino," Ohno dared.

"Hey! Don't bet on us!" Sho yelled.

They all laughed and opened the doors to the ballroom. Everyone looked their best, and the guest looked like rich and well-mannered aristocrats. Tables with party snacks surrounded the massive tree in the center. Chefs were on standby behind the tables and waved their wands for more food to appear that waited in the kitchen.

Sakurai-san later made an announcement that his wife is expecting a new son. This shocked Sho and his little sister who was happy, healthy, and jumping with Sho in circles. Everyone applauded and toasted to the new life that will be added to the Sakurai family. Sho looked so happy, he randomly started rapping, in which his father smacked his head to stop the racket, but they both smiled.

It was a lively party. A golden party. A life that Sho lived and shared with his friends. Jun stood near the punch bowl and just watched his friends in amusement. Sho tried his best to court a few pretty girls but failed miserablely. Then, Nino popped up out of nowhere, like he always does, and wooed the girls to follow him. His suave behavior easily won over the girls, leaving Sho comically crestfallen.

On the other side of the hall, Jun saw Aiba drooped his shoulders in defeat while Ohno roared with laughter. Aiba pouted as he handed his money to Ohno's open palm. Jun smirked, took one last sip of his butterbeer, and walked outside to the balcony.

It was a clear night, and the crescent moon shined down on Jun's dress robe. The stars twinkled beautifully with the music from the hall in the background. It was quite romantic. Somehow, Jun felt at peace.

"Why are you out here on your own, good-looking?" A voice asked him. But Jun didn't had to turn around to know who it was.

"Guests are allowed to come here, right?" Jun asked back. "Why can't I?"

Sho rested his arms on the balcomy edge like Jun and gazed up at the night sky.

"Is there something on your mind?" Sho asked.

"A lot of things," Jun answered, not sure where to start.

"Ha! I know what you mean," Sho sighed. "Sometimes I still can't believe what I am now. But I don't think bad about it."

"What do you mean?"

"At first, I was upset that now I'm a Vocal Wizard, but I couldn't be happier because...I got my family back together," Sho smiled. "Mai is finally healthy like she was before. And my father and mother are spending more time together. And soon I'll have a little brother to mess around with. It's like all my suffering for my past mistakes and on that volcano has paid off."

"Sho," Jun sighed.

"I will try to make the most of these powers," Sho said, balling his hands. "I will use them for good, like how my family is happy now. Sure I can make fire, and that can be destructive, but I won't be aggressive anymore." Sho nodded. "I will be kind to everyone and do my very best in anything thrown at me," Sho said, smiling at the moonlight.

But someone wasn't smiling...

"Is that why you're being nice to me?" Jun said, in a low voice.

"What?"

"Sho..." Jun uttered, feeling his heart fluttering again. "I...I love you."

Sho didn't reply quickly, and then he chuckled.

"I like you too, Matsujun," Sho smiled.

"No!" Jun said, feeling frustrated. "Don't you get it? I don't like you like a friend or a brother...I love you!"

This time, Sho's smile faded. His eyes showed he was shocked and his mouth was slightly opened. Jun stared head on.

"I told you this before once," Jun reminded him, as Sho looked away. "I told you. And I wasn't sure what you were doing. Did you forget or were you just being nice to me?"

Sho looked uncomfortable, trying not to make eye contact with Jun.

"Well?" Jun demanded, trying not to cry. "What is it? Do you...do you pity me?"

"Uhh...I-I..."

"I love...how passionate you are," Jun said. "I love your rapping. It's contagious, and it stirs my heart in so many feelings that I don't know how to describe them. You're kind and gentle and you help me."

Sho finally stared back at Jun.

"I look up to you," Jun confessed. It was small, but Jun thought he saw a twitch in Sho's eyebrow. He tried to ignore it and he continued. "I really love you," Jun nodded. "I...I need a solid answer."

Sho looked flustered. He stared up at the stars, then down to the fields of the Sakurai estate. He glanced down and around, trying to think of a reply. Jun waited patiently.

Finally, Sho stopped fidgeting. His eyes were on the ground, and he slowly raised his head as if he finally found an answer. Jun could feel a sweat drop roll down the back of his neck. He gulped.

"Jun," Sho said, still not making eye contact. "I...I'm shocked that you feel this way."

Jun felt his heart flipping around like crazy.

"And," Sho stared off into the distance, "w-well, I...I really like you."

Jun thought he could have died.

Sho finally stared at Jun, but the look in his eyes told a different story.

"But...I'm sorry," Sho whispered. "It's just...there is someone else..."

Jun couldn't find his voice. Sho looked like he didn't know what else to say, so he bowed slightly and left Jun alone. Never looking back.

Jun watched Sho entered back into the bright and distance ballroom. Everyone smiled as he walked in, and he opened his arms to greet them. Jun felt cold as he watched Sho playfully snapped his finger and flickers of fire appeared at his finger tips. The batch of teenagers gathered around and handed Sho a microphone. Ohno, Aiba, and Nino were with the group and laughed as Sho started rapping.

They were so bright. They looked so happy. They looked so warm and joyful. They looked so far away to Jun. He could only see Sho's back as he danced around with his fire hands while Ohno took the mic. Ohno bedazzled the crowd with his voice while Sho released his passion for everyone to feel.

Jun stayed outside and watched them. Aiba and Nino smiled until their cheeks were red, probably sneaking in wine into their drinks. Ohno and Sho drew a crowd, enjoying the attention.

No one noticed Jun outside, alone and heartbroken.

No one could see the tears falling down his cheeks.

And no one could hear the dark thought growing in his mind.

"If only I was a Vocal Wizard..."
