Title: Kaleidoscope
Series: Oneshot
Rating: G
Summary: In the midst of their brand new lives, four men look back to their past in a kaleidoscope of emotions.
Notes: It's nearing All Soul's Day here. This fic is very awlward, awkward to read and awkward to write. I feel like it's finished yet missing something.

“Sho-chan loves rice, so I made him a big one.”

Sho stared vaguely at the humongous rice ball in front of him, and then looked up suddenly at the smiling face that had set it on his table. Nino? No, he shook his head, and a frown crept up onto his face. No, it wasn’t Nino. It was his sister. It would never be Nino. Never again. He sighed, set down his pen and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his eyes wearily.

Nino… He hadn’t thought of him in ages. He was part of a life and a past that did not exist anymore. He thought he had closed that book a long time ago. A tug at his heart told him otherwise.

“Maybe I haven’t…” he whispered to himself. After a few minutes of quiet, painful contemplation, he stood up, grabbed his coat, rice ball and car keys and ran down shouting, “I’m just gonna take a drive,” to nobody in particular.

Ohno rubbed his neck wearily and frowned at himself in front of the large mirror that walled the dance studio. The day had been extremely hard. The life of an idol had never been easy, true enough, but a solo career was dreadfully hard compared to sharing the life with four other boys. He sighed and closed his eyes.

“Ohno-san, here are the costume choices for the next concert. After you’ve chosen the ones you want, please call me from the other room, ok?”

Ohno nodded vaguely and began rummaging through the row of hangers dazedly until a bright silvery sparkly jersey caught his eyes and his heart. Nino… He took the jersey into his arms and a few wet drops fell onto it. He sniffed and dug into his pocket for his handphone.

“Sh-Sho?”

“I’m not home Ohchan… I’m…” Sho’s voice broke.

“T-to…?”

“Y-yeah..”

“C-can you pick me up?”

“Yes..”

Jun bit his lip, sighed and plopped down onto his couch. He was tired and his back hurt from bringing in huge boxes filled with semi-useless stuff all day long. Moving was never supposed to be easy but that didn’t mean that it had to be hell. Well, night had fallen and the suffering would soon be over. The only thing left to unpack was a large cardboard box labeled as ‘Books and CDs.’

He placed the box onto his bed and opened it. He placed the books one by one on one side of the shelf and then the CDs. Soon the box was empty save for one last CD. He raised it from the box with loving fingers and eyes glazed with nostalgia.

“Arashi, Happiness,” he smiled, sitting down next to the box. “It seems like such a long time ago.”

Very much like the single’s name, each face looked up at him with faces brimming with joy. He remembered how happy he felt in those days. Sweet nostalgia. His eyes fell suddenly on the smiling face in the middle. “Nino…”

A mixture of a sigh and a laugh left his throat. He shoved the CD into his jacket pocket, dumped the box onto his couch, grabbed his car keys and left his brand new apartment.

Aiba kicked off his shoes and padded across the hallway tiredly. Passing by the living room he suddenly heard his younger brother shout out, “Nii-chan, Kazuko-san dropped by today.”

“Kazuko-san?” Aiba stopped walking.

“Yeah, but you weren’t here so she just left a package in your room.”

“Yeah, thanks, Yusuke,” he waved at his brother, his legs resuming their motion.

A small brown envelope perched at his desk greeted him as he entered his room. He sighed, picked up the envelope and plopped down on the bed. He opened it gently and peered inside. There was a note.

“I found this in Kazunari’s room,” he read, “I thought that it’s only right that you should have it. Take care of yourself, Masaki.”

Aiba smiled and pulled out a small picture that had also been in the envelope.

“Nino…” he whispered, gazing at the picture. It had been taken in those blissful days with MAIN, both of them wearing those huge tailcoat costumes, smiling, laughing, hugging. He bit back a tear and sniffed.

“Yusuke, I’m just gonna go out for a while. Make your own dinner.”

~~

Aiba trudged up the stone stairs quietly, rubbing his arms. The night air was cold. He could feel it though he had a jacket on. He blew warm breath onto his freezing hands as he arrived at his destination.

He looked up and gave an awkward snort.

“Hey, Aiba-chan, we were just thinking when you’d show up.”

Aiba smiled at Jun who was huddled next to Ohno who was leaning on Sho.

“I missed him,” he answered simply. Honestly, it really was just that simple. Nino had been a big, happy part of his life and apparently Jun’s and Ohno’s and Sho’s as well.

“Seems we all did,” Sho whispered, gazing off in the direction of Nino’s tombstone.

Ohno placed the folded up silver SK outfit on the ground in front of it. He sniffed, tears wetting his lashes. “Life’s harder without him.”

‘Yeah, he was such a great friend,” Jun dropped the CD onto the folded jersey.

“He was a great person.” Sho put his humongo rice ball on top of the CD.

“To Nino.” Aiba stuffed one corner of the picture onto the soft rice ball.

“To Nino,” they all said weakly.

“Unable to erase, unable to erase, it floated in the dark nights, the shadows of the one I love.”
