Amazing. This was simply amazing. The flow if events, the characterization, the happenings.. This was just, perfect.
Jun has always had something about Sho. But he was young and insecure. And then he met Masaki. Masaki who was able to put colour to his world, and for the first time in his life, Jun felt such a strong affection towards another man, a different feeling than the teenager crush he used to have towards Sho. Masaki is like Jun's lifeline- that's why Jun can never let him go despite everything. And Masaki had wanted Jun to take the risk for him- for them- but knew that he was asking for the impossible so he decided to move on with his life, hoping that it might mend his heart even the slightest bit. But Jun meant too much to Masaki so he eventually gravitated back to where Jun is, and they walk forward, trying to support each other through their suppressed love.
It was not an over-statement when you said that a part of Jun died when Masaki left forever. Jun knew, that Masaki, his Masaki who was always so full of dreams, would never blamed him for what had happened. That he would want Jun to keep on living and move forward and face his fears. But he didn't want to allow himself such satisfaction. He felt like he had to suffered through his guilt because it would be so much easier if it was his fault. Because he would have someone to blame for everything and anything that had happened. And that's when Nino came into the picture.
Nino, with all his brattiness glory, waltzes in into Jun's life, bringing back the light Jun once had lost. He might have felt it- he and Masaki used to be bestfriends after all- and so he felt the need to interfere. Life is not easy after that, but Jun was getting there. He made friends. He talked with his family again. And he finally confronted his feeling for Sho after a long time. Masaki's passing was hurtful, but it brought many good things to Jun's life. Jun might still be his emo-self otherwise. It's just typical of Masaki. To still be able to bring smiles to others even after he's gone :')
Thank you for this very beautiful piece, author-san. You nailed this one amazingly.
