updates, updates!

Nothing specially interesting has happened recently, which I think is a good thing mostly hehe.  I've been working a lot, and my feet and legs have been super sore. I really probably should invest in some really good shoes.  Today was a day off thankfully, but there was 24 hour maintenance on my main server in WoW, so boo.  I played a bit of Zoo Tycoon and finished reading after the quake , a short story collection by Haruki Murakami. It was decent and worth reading, but not overly impressive until the last story "honey pie".  I loved loved the ending.  (last paragraph follows...be warned).

"I want to write stories that are different from the ones I've written so far, Junpei thought: I want to write about people who dream and wait for the night to end, who long for the light so they can hold the ones they love.  But right now I have to stay here and keep watch over this woman and this girl.  I will never let anyone--not anyone--try to put them into that crazy box--not even if the sky should fall or the earth crack open with a roar."

Anyhow, I also recently finally read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.  I've been told repeatedly by friends, co-workers, even students when I taught that it was an amazing book.  They were right.  I should have read it earlier.

This past weekend, Stephen came up and hung out a bit.  There were a lot of people here over the weekend including Stevie and his girlfriend Danielle, Newman, and Landon with his girlfriend Maya.  They all drank a lot Saturday night and stayed up late.  I played Rock Band with them for a while then ran away to try to sleep for a 5 am wake up on Sunday. Newman and I both got a 100% on the songs we sang (just one each). It was fun, but Buddy drank with them and forgot about feeding us dinner (on our diet day off).  I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner that I snuck upstairs while they were all outside on our back porch smoking cigars/drinking/talking.  I think he and Stephen ate leftover chili after they came in.  I was a little upset that he mostly forgot about me, but I think they were having a good time, especially because Newman apparently has come around and broken up with his girlfriend who no one likes and who seemed to have a bad influence on his friendships.  Buddy did make me some yummy shrimp alfredo with garlic/cheese bread last night though and bought me M&M's, which were most definitely not diet friendly.  I had the leftovers of the alfredo for lunch today after sleeping for maybe around 10-11 hours. I was so exhausted.

I did go to a follow up appointment with my GI doctor (Dr. Stagg) last week Monday.  Thankfully he was not a jerk this time and apparently had been communicating with my dermatologist.  They agreed that for now both of the old medicines were not safe to take (there's a possibility I'm not allergic to the Balsalazide), and for now, I'm just not going to take anything...I was so happy to hear it.  I was going to suggest it if he didn't hehe.  I hate to take medicine and taking like 9 pills a day is no fun.  I much prefer this no medicine business.  If I start having any symptoms of my colitis returning though, I get to call him immediately and start medication.  He ordered some blood tests to make sure it would be safe for me to take a new medicine though called Imuran, an immunosuppressant which is often used for severe rheumatoid arthritis and things like avoiding organ rejection in transplant patients.  The blood tests were to ensure I do not have hepatitis b (b/c of liver issues related to the medicine) and to check levels of TPMT enzymes or enzyme activity to ensure I can metabolize Imuran and to determine dosing if/when my colitis does flare.  I think.  So anyhoo, if my colitis does flare, they'll prescribe prednisone till the new medicine kicks in (it takes up to two months to take full effect I think), and then I'll have to get regular blood tests to make sure there aren't any major concerning side effects (esp in relation to liver function).  Hopefully! my colitis will just stay away.  Last time there was a two year gap in symptoms so...

Oh! and we have a new acting store manager at Sears while our normal manager is out for 4-6 weeks for knee surgery.  No one likes this new guy because he's so strict and a bit gruff.  He also likes morning meetings, which I really dislike, but not so much as when I was a cashier and couldn't open my registers before customers were in the store because of the meetings.  He's also super picky about recovery when we close (he comes to check each department himself).  My manager Amanda told me he liked me and Jessica though.  I do close tomorrow night and Saturday this week.  I just hope he's not closing too.

I'm also really starting to disrespect a new intern/manager Roxanna.  She used to work in Hardware, but went through an internship program or something to become manager.  She used to be quite cool and levelheaded, but now...not so much.  She questioned what I was doing one day when I was chatting with Susan (while working on a task she specifically asked me to do) just after opening time on a Saturday when there were few customers around.  I got back to work annoyed b/c she's always one who chats while wandering around the store, and not about store stuff...about guys, apartments, her previous night...and she once commented on facebook about how she deserves something because she's the hardest working person she knows.  I'm not either, but I know of many people who work far harder doing much more tasking jobs, and I assume she's come into contact with a few herself. For her to be able to say that while not acknowleding them is just silly. She's definitely not as levelheaded as I thought.  I think she interviewed somewhere else...let's hope she gets it.

Eclipse is being released tonight at midnight too.  My friend Susan invited me to go with her to the midnight showing, but I'm just not crazy about it enough to go. Now when the last Harry Potter movies comes around...hehe.   I do enjoy reading the series as a guilty pleasure b/c I know it's really not that good (the last book comes out in paperback in August I think, so I'll finally reading it then).  I just find it odd how much girls do like it and can ignore how horrible a character Bella is.  But alas, vampires, werewolves, oh my!

Buddy got an A in his first summer session class. Yay for Buddy! Now i'm waiting for him to get his schedule for this summer sessions classes so I can buy us some tickets to Beauty and Beast showing later in July/August at the Walton Arts Center.  I'm super excited about it, and Buddy got an email about cheaper (half price) tickets if we book a certain area.  Hopefully those haven't run out yet.

Other than that, not much to report except that my mom has apparently sent letters to Buddy's mom and Anneke and not to me.  boo.  I did update my illness notes to include this last week's follow up and blood tests.  And! I took the most awesome picture of Kalli today (posted on facebook) of her yawning.  She's such a cutie.

Grape Fanta is not as tasty as orange Fanta.
