I am the artist in the family...
And it kinda sucks. Mom has asked for business card designs, sign designs, costume designs... etc. I do them without gripe because I figure she'd get all anal on my ass if I didn't. Crabbin about how I've got shelter, food and a place to sleep... yadda yadda... But my brother asking for character designs for his game is really pushing it. He's been bugging me and bugging me for sketches of his game designs and for what? Absolutely nothing. I paid him to make me a clay unicorn horn. Paid the brat $8 for twisting grey clay and baking it. That's what he liked to do and he wanted to make a small business out of it so I respected him for that and paid him more than double the price of the block of clay to make the unicorn horn. He thought it was the coolest thing in the world to get paid a profit for his creations.
But does he want to pay me? And does mom think that's a decent thing to expect from him cause he doesn't have any money? No.. it's all "Oh Allison! You can't even do one stupid little sketch for your own brother?" No, *one* sketch wouldn't be that bad. But knowing my brother, in a day or two, he'll come back to me and beg me for more sketches. For one thing, I respect his idea to make this mmorpg of his, but why does he insist on wanting to do this without money. I don't care that he's 16, but he doesn't have a job, he doesn't have an income, so how does he expect to pay artists and designers and coders and stuff for his game? He just wants the game to be done and doesn't care how it gets done and if it means using people for their talents then so be it. He's got volunteers on his game. That's great. But I didn't volunteer and so I don't see how he expects me, just cause I'm his blood relation, to be a part of this thing? He offered me a spot as a GM. Oh whoopie... I get to listen to idiots all day long complain about server downs and maintenance and how this guy KSed me and took all my ph47 l0075!! Yeah. That's a *real* nice payment for the sketches.

I get people asking me for free art on a constant basis. Over email I've gotten a few requests to do art design for people's games and books... the problem is, they all want a free lunch! It's as bad as when Markus' brother thought he could use me for a tattoo design just cause I was his brother's girlfriend. He wanted this super elaborate wavy piano keyboard all down his shoulder blade and back. Gawd, people, get it through your heads! I don't do art for NOTHING! How could I? I'd go broke. Oh wait. I AM BROKE!
On that thought, I should be drawing Kuro and Elka pictures up the wazoo. They have been so good to me and their generosity is nothing to spit at. I have been sooo spoiled by both of them. I'm gonna color some more commissions. Oh fuck, I can't. I've got the dreaded... ugh... annual pap exam soon.
