I hate Impressionism. There it is. What a cop out. It's an easy way out of covering your brush strokes. Duesche bags. What's the big deal about it any way? What makes theirs so Gad damn good? Why does everyone worship/respect Impressionism? I have never been so frustrated with a painting in my entire life. I'm a surrealist. It's one thing to ask me to paint an abstract, but it is quite another to ask me to paint in an abstract way. I hate it. I completely loathe the idea of stabbing at the canvas and someone saying, "Wow, that's your best work I've seen!" The cruel irony of it all is that this one, this monstrousity, probably would have been the first to sell at the Arts Festival. I hate consumers. I take that back. I hate ignorant consumers. People that have no idea what they're looking at. They buy a piece because that style is popular. Simply buying for the purpose of some midlife crisis woman who's wearing an obnocious, skin tight, red-flowered cocktail dress will comment on the Starry Night painted by DaVinci hanging on the wall. Some moron who doesn't even get the "ism" right. "But this man is the number one artistic critic in the country!", they will say. "Very good taste in culture". Good taste? Good taste killed Creativity! To Hell with public opinion! Art is enjoyed at an individual level, personal feelings derived from the reception of the images on the canvas. From one artist to one consumer, that's the market. And if that beligerant woman at the cocktail party disapproves, well, she's had one too many cocktails, you should call her a cab.
