Host Dad started fire in the fireplace this evening.
Looks toasty. Feels toasty. Smells toasty.
MmmmMMMmmmm.
(the logs look more orange-ish in real life, but somehow my camera can't capture it.)
Well, the day wasn't bad to begin with. Just cold, clody, and windy.
It started getting bad after noon.
Speaking of noon, one of my classes took a field trip to an architecture firm in downtown. Interesting place. They had a fireplace, too. With real fire and real logs (not gas). And a bowl of fruits with real fruits (not wax). And they provided us with free pizza and drinks. They are the nicest architects I've ever known! (College students' motto: never pass up on free food. This must be my lucky week, because I had some free food -- GOOD food -- on Tuesday, too.) The pizzas (vegetarian, supreme, and cheese) were soooo good... and there was more than plenty to go around. The cheese pizza was to die for. Beats Pizza Hut on any day of the week. Or maybe I was just hungry. I barely held myself back from taking the leftovers home (though the tour guide said we're free to take them), because I didn't want to be a pig. I made a note of the pizza place's name, though. :]
Oh, and I parallel parked. There was like two car length's extra space, but still, I parallel parked. On first try. Without bumping into anyone or anything. (*fanfare*)
Back to the topic.
It was raining profusely when the field trip was over. There was some sleet mixed with it, too, but I wasn't too worried. The rain died down a bit as I was driving home. Then we started getting ice-rain. Yes, we were having rain, sleet, and ice-rain at the same time. (How is that possible?)
For those who don't know:
Ice-rain is supercold rain. Instead of freezing up there like sleet, it somehow manages to remain in its liquid state. As soon as it lands/hits something, it turns into ice, causing rather spectacular scenary and snowday for the schools all around. In that way, Ice-rain = good news.
Ice-rain makes for very dangerous road conditions (worse than snow and sleet), and with enough quantity of it clinging to tree branches and power lines, it can break off heavy tree branches, split tree barks in half, and cause power outages. In that way, Ice-rain=very, very bad news.
I put some newspaper on the windshield wipers and side mirrors of my car, because it's hard to get ice off those parts. (My car is parked outdoors.) I don't know what the forecast is saying, but if the road conditions aren't good tomorrow, I'm not going to risk going to school. Most students and professors in my school commute to campus, so I'm sure professors will understand.
P.S. Host mom is down with flu.
