year-end blues

Dec 31, 2008 10:39

Oh my this year zapped by so quickly. Just a quick update (I'd like to post a proper 2008 closing post, like the usual year-end recap I usually did, but yeah, this is most likely my final post in 2008. Oh well, I don't get all melancholic on year-ends/new-years anyway~).
I missed Erol Alkan's dj set T__T He was here early this month, just before Zoukout, and I did not go =( Because I've got no one to go with (none of my friends know him, apparently), and besides I was (and am!) DAMN SKINT. And I heard reports that it was a really great set T_____T Damn. I actually thought about going to Zoukout again this year, even though the lineup wasn't as exciting as 2007. The ones I wanted to see most were Erol and MSTRKRFT, and also The Teenagers and Nouvelle Vague. But I've seen Nouvelle Vague anyway (in a lovely, intimate poolside concert last year), and most of the others already came here; so when I learnt that Erol is playing here the night before Zoukout, I thought, why the heck go all the way to Singapore? My semester was having its heaviest period; and I had another, bigger plan for the month anyway (which was sadly, had to be cancelled too, uhh). But in the end I didn't go... :( Hey, at least I already have lotsa fun two weeks before - the Whitest Boy Alive and Steve Aoki rrrocked! :D
Another let down is the news of Cesc's injury. How could you, Xabi? Cesc was crying (was he?) when he went off pitch! (but with this news you're kinda forgiven, heh.) Four moooonths? T__________T Great, we lost our captain and practically the midfield now T_T GET WELL SOON bb!
So finally the semester finished. I only had two classes, one is the one where we have to develop our theses proposal all semester long, and the other one is where several teachers/instructors from various background presented sample cultural studies researchs. The first one was the hardest class ever and the second was fun but at the same time messy (the schedule) and disjointed. But anywaay, they're all finished now, huge relief! So yeah, december lacked sleep a lot. There were only two tasks submitted this semester - my proposal is about contemporary batik, and for the final paper in the second class I wrote about green fashion trend - but it sure felt like lots of hard work. But we survived! ^^
After all those academic frenzy I couldn't quite relaxed yet. I had a translating job, which wasn't too difficult but it took a lot of time. It almost made me miss the yearly christmas dinner in my relatives' house. But at last minute I decided to go, and before that, joined my sis for what's gotta be the fastest xmas shopping ever - 3 gifts in under about 20 minutes (it was almost 9pm, some of the stores in the mall were already closed, and when we got there we really hadn't have any idea on what to buy for the gifts.) The family gathering was nice, I ate a lot ^^; At first I thought it was going to be a tad gloomy because one of the elderly (a grand-uncle) has just died a day before, but it turned out okay. So then for the remaining December 25th all I did was wrapping up my translations, and I finished early morning the next day, slept a few hours, and then went to mangdu for some dvd-hunting! Ahhh I haven't been to mangdu for a long time! Wow, their music dvds were pretty surprising (the imported ones) but so far nothing that really interest me (I saw a Babyshambles dvd but nah.. if they have The Libs, then I'd buy :p). Mostly Jazz and classic though. And also Asian music. It's kinda ironic that I once was so crazy about Japanese music and finding dvds were the hardest thing (so yeah, when I did find one, it was such a bliss), but now that J-pop/J-rock dvds are everywhere, I'm not interested anymore. I actually went to mangdu to find French and German films, but I couldn't find any :( I ended up buying 11 dvds though. And so last weekend was spent watching CSI:NY season 5 ***spoiler||flack kissed angell!!!! eee i like them together XD||end spoiler*** and some other films (two Woody Allen's, a Fernando Meirelles', and a Palahniuk's novel adaptation). I also went to see Madagascar in the cinema today. It was okay. Not very funny though.
And I've no plans tonight, new year's eve. Actually yeah I did have a plan, but it all went into ruins by one single phone call early one morning last week. I've been planning to visit her in Wellington and celebrate NYE with this seemingly awesome festival. I mean, Franz Ferdinand, Cut Copy, Mystery Jets, The Kooks, Jamie Lidell, and some others! And it's set in a vineyard! And I've even thought about catching Arctic Monkeys and Fleetfoxes while I'm there (and well, do fun stuff with her, heheh). But well....... they denied me a visa. So there goes my plan. I was pretty pissed for a few days (because I really think the reason didn't make sense), but I let go of it now. Maybe I was too hasty in planning everything. So yeah... looks like this NYE will be like the previous years: at home - eating pizza - watching lame shows on tv - blow the trumpets and light up some firecrackers - and go to bed at half past midnight. Yep, that's why I never really see new year as special.
That being said, here's wishing everyone a better, fantabulous, fun-filled 2009!!! ^__^ *pops champagne*
