Divorce, after the tears and the pleading and the grief, is pretty much one form. Kris stares down at the form. He has a blue ball-point pen in his hand and the woman he has loved since he was a spotty, awkward teenager is sitting across from him with an encouraging smile.
...she also has three mechanical atomic ninjas making their coffee but Kris barely notices them any more.
"It's for the best, Kris," Katy says seriously.
"I promised," Kris says woodenly. "'Better or worse', I promised you and I promised God-"
The wet lump in his throat strangles the rest of the words and Katy reaches out to squeeze his hand. Her eyelashes are spiky with the tears she won't let fall and she forgets herself enough that her grip makes the bones in his hand grind together.
"You didn't promise to stay married to a supervillain," Katy points out in a gruff voice and she lets go of his hand. "It's just not safe any more."
"I-" Kris shakes his head and pushes away from the table. "I need to take a walk."
Katy sends Minion #2300976 (who needs just another month before s/he gets an actual name) to make sure he gets to the sidewalk intact. He notes the new traps absently; the pit of ravenous alligators is finished and the missiles under the flower bed are heat-seeking now. Minion #2300976 gets really upset when Kris insists on feeding the alligators and the other minions get upset when Kris doesn't let them use Minion #2300076 for target practice so Kris takes them all down the ice-cream shop and buys them all ice-cream.
Talking the minions is better than thinking about the wreck of his life. Most people, even Katy, don't actually talk to minions so Kris has to talk them into talking to him first. At first, even Minion #2300976 doesn't seem sure that Kris sincerely wants to talk to him. Her. (Even Minion #2300976 doesn't seem sure so Kris tries not to ask.)
Once he does get the minions to talk, Kris can't really make them stop. They wind up spending hours eating ice-cream and talking about life-goals and relationships. Then Kris takes them to the mini-golf course until it closes and the minions buy him pizza on the way home. One of them even drives the car rather than the Deathbot XTR9000 which Kris appreciates and they drink coffee and watch Comedy Central for most of the rest of the night.
This is probably why Katy wants to divorce him, Kris admits.
But what Kris doesn't get is how, eight months later, he goes from married to Evil!Time's Villain of the Year 2011 to living in sin (and LA) with her arch-nemesis, the Fabulous Glam-man and his sidekick Cheeks. He was there for it, obviously but that's not the same thing as understanding it.
Katy - who somehow manages to work in surprise!weekly coffee dates with him - laughs at him every time he asks and Adam just tells him that it was 'fate' and kisses him until Kris forgets everything but how good Adam is at this.

On girls in comic fandoms: This is really interesting - the initial post starts with a (presumed male) poster 'approving' of girls who wear comic-inspired t-shirts and know the fandom. This attitude gets eviscerated by both the posters underneath who point out how hostile that makes sci-fi/comic fandom for anyone who identifies as female.
