Generic Type Update

Not much has changed.

Still working on animation homework, which requires getting a story that doesn't shrivel up and die from exposure to pencil and paper. Sadly, this has proven more difficult than I imagined. I have several idea 'chunks' - stories with a dramatic end and tantalizing hints at a middle or that have a great concept/beginning but no real way to expand them out into a fully fledged story.

Also, I succumbed and went to see Eragon.

Overall, I felt the story was rushed and less an adaptation of 'Eragon' so much as a fanfiction presentation of it. I wasn't overly impressed with the stage-setting or the flimsy explanations of history.

Main problems with the film:

1. Galbatorix wasn't insane, on his second dragon or interested in capturing Eragon and Sapphira. Ummm...Mr. Screenplay Writer? Why is he keeping the egg(s) around if not to corrupt and recruit the new Riders? Seriously - if he wasn't interested in that then why didn't he just smash the eggs?

Also, (yes, I'm overthinking this) why remove the one bit of his past that made Galbatorix both interesting and not-just-your-fantasy-despot? Having lost his dragon made Galbatorix almost sympathetic and highlighted just how important the bond between Rider and Dragon is.

2. Politics.
This was one of the (few) things that I thought were interesting in the book; the Varden didn't leap to welcome Eragon or hand control of their army over to him before he'd ever taken part in a battle. But in celluloid land, they jump up and down in happiness to see him and totally trust him! Despite the fact that he arrives with one of their agents (conviently poisoned) and the son of one of their worst enemies, they just know Sapphira picked the right one.

3. Brom.
I actually quite liked the "I killed Morzan and so killed the only living dragon left outside the king's maproom." idea. It made sense with the character and it made his uber-angst understandable. But wow, bitter and twisted and not-at-all-hiding-it. Brom was less sympathetic than he should have been.

4. Bug boys.
(I don't know how to spell this and I can't be bothered looking for it) But wow, talk about ruling out a sequel. They were ugly rather than replusive and they just weren't scary enough, not to mention the whole 'they don't matter enough to keep their back story straight'.

Good Points:

1. Saphira.
Draaaaaaaa~gon. *.*

2. Murtagh
Older brother = better brother.

3. Pretty fire/battle.

So am poking various stories. And wishing maeritrae was around.
