This weekend I returned to Waterloo for the last time as an undergrad. I returned home with a Bachelor of Software Engineering. The weekend turned into a great sendoff before the big unknown that is adulthood.
We arrived in Waterloo on Friday evening despite the the 2-hour traffic jam we encountered on the 401. Those 2 hours were spent listening to my father complain about Toronto, its roads and its traffic jams. He kept repeating how glad he was that this was the last drive he would have to do to Waterloo. We also tried to count how many times we've driven this route and how we used to wonder what it would feel like the last time we'd have to do it. Now, we were at that moment.
On Friday evening, we dined at King Street Trio to celebrate my graduation. Then it was off to sleep before the big festivities of Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, I was so happy to see everyone again. The ceremony was quick and relatively painless except for that putz that was chosen to do the valedictory address. I was very glad that they exempted a cripple like me from kneeling in front of the University's President. After the ceremony, I really enjoyed catching up with people at the reception. Then, I spent the evening with Graeme, Dave, Lisa, and their families. We also celebrated Lisa's birthday! Happy Birthday Lisa! We looked through the yearbook and I was happy to see many pictures of me ( it was good to have someone we knew in a position of power ). This yearbook is very different from my High School yearbook where my one lonely picture is buried somewhere deep within the pages.
On Sunday, we witnessed the union of one Ayelet Israeli ( now Wasik ) and one Chris Wasik. It was a great and original ceremony. I loved the speeches and vows before the two exchanged wedding bands. Mazel tov to both of you!!!! Congrats!!!!
It was really sad to say goodbye and I thought about it the whole way back to Montreal. I wished I could have stayed for the entire ceremony and spent more time with everyone. However, thanks for that applause at the end :) Nice touch!
To Ayelet & Chris: I wish you all the best and may you live happily ever after.
To Greg & Sarah: Enjoy Europe!
To everyone: Thanks for the memories! Good luck & hope to see you soon.
