The papers are in, the projects are done, all that's left is a final test or two. It's a bit odd; my undergraduate career is almost over. It's been a lot of fun: Jane Austen (Henry Tilney FTW!), Edgar Allan Poe, the Gothic, Frankenstein, etc. I'm really excited to graduate, but sad too (especially since no one is coming to see me graduate, but still); I'm gonna miss my roommate (we met freshman year and have lived together ever since) and my friends and my crazy awesome classes, and my job. *sigh* But on the bright side, I'm gonna be a B.A. :) And I was thinking back over the last bunch of semesters, and realized that I've written 4 research papers about the Gothic and some sort of feminist/feminism aspect. I should have stayed in the Honors program; my great fear was writing a thesis, and if you combine these 4 papers, that's a good 40 or 50 pages. :) Of course, they don't all fit together that well, but still. And I take comfort in the fact that I've gotten much better as a writer--at least I can write about feminism without putting it in scare quotes! Seriously, take a look at these titles:
- Contradictions: Poe’s “The Oval Portrait” as an Example of Poe’s “Feminism” (March 19, 2007)
- Anti-Feminist Sentiment in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights (November 22, 2007)
- Fanny Prices as a Gothic Heroine: The Radical Jane Austen in Mansfield Park (December 12, 2008)
- Victor Frankenstein as Gothic Heroine: Mary Shelley's Critique of Parthogenesis (April 11, 2009) (I might flip the title on this one; I still haven't decided which part should go first)
I feel so accomplished now. :)
Anyways, since contrary to all expectations I don't actually have a whole lot to do today (this last reading day), I'm having a Star Wars marathon. Han/Leia was my first ship, and I love them. And really, the only way to have a Star Wars marathon is to *love* the series so much that you're okay with making fun of them, 'cause really, they're so very mockable. Luke really is this horrendously whiny child; why didn't they just train Leia in the first place? She could have beaten the Empire in the first 20 minutes! but then, we wouldn't have a movie. And the Han Solo awesomeness!!!!!! I love Indiana Jones, but really, Han Solo is better. Indy's all rakish (and an archeologist) but he's kind of a jerk. Han's just a schmoe--he's never really a jerk. :)
And anyone want a copy of Dean Koontz's Frankenstein? It was one of my textbooks this semester for the Frankenstein class, and heaven knows I don't want it. None of the book buy-back places I went to want it, so unless someone (anyone) speaks up, it's going in the trash (and yes that hurts my little librarian soul, but really, I didn't like the book.)
