Merry Christmas! I hope your Christmas was wonderful, and that you're spending it with people you love. :) I am--I'm so glad to be home! So excited to see everybody and give them hugs and play with them, even though my baby brother still can't say my name, despite numerous promptings. (Can we say "subliminal messages"?) We've gone caroling (in the cold!), and played games, and watched (or made fun of, if you're me) Hallmark movies, and everything. :) And I managed to get all my Christmas shopping done on Monday--all of it. That takes skill. We had our Christmas Eve dinner yesterday with some family friends, and we did our yearly tradition of playing "The Right Family." Everyone sits in a circle with a present, and someone reads the story, and every time the word "right" is said, you pass the presents to the right, and every time the word "left" is said, you pass the presents to the left, and at the end, you open the present you are left with. We've played it every Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember. :)
After that, we each opened one of our own presents that was already under the tree (from friends or siblings). My little sister gave me "Big Red" gum. :D And then us kids were sequestered in the basement, to await permission the next morning to come up and see the tree. I wanted to watch It's a Wonderful Life--and so I popped it in on my laptop. It didn't end until 1 am. :) I was sleeping good, until my little sister came out and jumped on me at 5:45. We then called/intercommed Mom and Dad at 6am, and they let us out of the basement and we saw that Santa had come! :) It was great--the baby wasn't too impressed at first, but he really got into the whole "opening presents" things later. And my little sister got an American Girl "Bitty Baby" doll--she was so excited! :) As for me, I got The Star Wars Vault (the thing I saw on Woot about a month ago); a couple CDs; the BBC's miniseries Cranford; and the original Trivial Pursuit. I wanted to play Trivial Pursuit over the summer, but we (ok, I) only had the Star Wars version of it. So now we (ok, I) have the original again! I also got a multiplicity of candies and cards and coupons. It was a good Christmas. :)
I even got Mom and Dad and my second oldest brother to play Trivial Pursuit with me, but only after I'd made (rather stupid, in hindsight) statements about how I was definitely going to win, and when Dad conceded that I'd probably win, I replied that "yes, but I have to prove it!" And as you might guess, Mom won. I got all the pieces of my pie first, but I couldn't get to the center to save my life! And when I did get there, they picked the "Sports & Leisure" category for me. Now, I can ace the "Arts & Literature" category, but "Sports & Leisure" gave me trouble. Curses! So, despite having all the pieces of my pie while Mom didn't have any, she managed to catch up and win the game--with a correct answer about Prince, no less! Who knew Mom knew about Prince? :) I have challenged everyone to a rematch, shouting that "There will be BLOOD TONIGHT!" (name the movie....)
And since we had a white Christmas, we went out and played in the snow, sledding and building forts and shoving snow down each other's back and throwing snowballs in faces.... I was innocent of all wrongdoing, of course. :) As I am always innocent. :D
Anyways, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
