The gymnastics stuff kills me. I'm watching right now, and the Chinese men are messing up big-time on the pommel horse. These guys are usually so amazing, and then sometimes, they make one little mistake, and it's like they totally fall apart. It's hard to watch.
The water in the pool in Beijing is 3 meters deep instead of the usual 2 meters. That means that the water is less disturbed by all those people churning around in it, and it's easier to swim (think how much easier it is to swim in a pool than the ocean). And, I believe it was Speedo who designed some brand new suits that are supposed to reduce drag and make the water slide right by the swimmer, and people are saying it's the technological equivalent of doping.
So, yes, these things are cutting down on their times, giving them more world records, but they're all swimming in this pool to get their times, so it'll only matter in future competitions, with shallower pools.
