Stephen Colbert Takes a Pot Shot at Spirited Away

Jan 21, 2014 21:13

Comedy Central's satirical news program The Colbert Report took a few quick jabs at marijuana aficionados during their Monday night program, as well as their apparent penchant for Hayao Miyazaki movies.

In his segment about this past weekend's NFL playoff games, Colbert mentioned that the two teams going to the Super Bowl-the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks-come from states that have something in common.

Both of these teams hail from states that have legalized marijuana for recreational use... Pot and football do not mix... once the NFL starts catering to these teams' doobie-toking fans, football will be forever ruined... Before you know it, all the Super Bowl commercials will be for munchies, and all the ads will have freaky talking babies and animals. And say goodbye to all-American halftime shows; instead, they'll just put a two-hour Hayao Miyazaki movie on the Jumbotron.

The show used clips from Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away for the last joke.

To segment by itself can be watched here, but the full episode can also be viewed on Colbertnation.com.

I tried to embed the video, but it kept doing autoplay in the preview and I didn't want to risk it.

A lot of my pothead friends were huge Miyazaki fans, didn't make the connection until now tho lol.
