NMB48's First Album Clinches 1st Place On Oricon For First Half Of 2013 + Rest Of Rankings
NMB48's first album, Teppen Tottande released in February 2013, has sold 411,800 copies, making the album the top selling album in Japan for the first half of 2013.
The is only the second time a female group has managed to reach the 1st place on the Oricon charts for the first half of the year, the first time being by Pink Lady exactly 35 years ago. This occurred when Pink Lady released their Greatest Hits Album in 1978. This is also the first time such a record has been achieved by a 48group. AKB48 has released an album, Koko ni Ita Koto, in the first half of the year in 2011, but it had only managed to clinch #2 on Oricon in the first half of that year.

In March 1999, Utada Hikaru's first album, First Love, was the first time a female had achieved this feat with a first album. NMB48 are only the second female acts to achieve this, but this is also a first for a female group. Since NMB48 are also the first female group to have their first album clinch #1 on Oricon for the first half of 2013, NMB48 captain Yamamoto Sayaka commented on a video out to their fans, "For us to achieve such an incredible feat, it was so unexpected, and we are very very honoured."
"We'll gradually increase our momentum in order to achieve our goal to appear in NHK's Kouhaku Uta Gassen for the first time at the end of this year, so that by all means, we'll be able to stand and perform on that stage," she added.
The 2nd and 3rd place for the album charts for the first half of 2013 were achieved by the last album of Funky Monkey Babys and EXILE's best of album respectively.
