19-year-old Kyoko Hinami to star in Hajime Hashimoto’s “Sakurahime”
On Thursday it was announced that gravure idol and actress Kyoko Hinami (19) will star in Sakurahime, the latest film by Phone Call to the Bar director Hajime Hashimoto.
Hinami previously starred in the 2011 film Vanished: Age 7 and gained popularity the following year when she was featured in a commercial for Pepsi Nex and the Super Sentai parody series Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger.
The new film is a period drama based on the epic kabuki play “Sakurahime Azuma Bunshō” by Tsuruya Namboku IV (1755-1829), which is widely considered a masterpiece.
Hinami will play a girl who was attacked by an unknown thief one night. After the incident, Sakurahime becomes obsessed with finding the man, whose identity was hidden aside from a distinctive tattoo. Later, she gets herself a matching tattoo and becomes a prostitute in order to seek him out. The man who attacked her, Gonsuke, will be played by Munetaka Aoki and the two will share a love scene.
Denden will co-star as a creepy priest named Seigen who stalks Sakurahime, believing her to be the reincarnation of his dead lover. Additional cast members include HIRO and Kuro-chan of the comedy trio Yasuda Dai Circus, AV actress Yuma Asami, and Makoto Nonomura, among others.
“Sakurahime” will be released at Human Trust Cinema Shibuya on June 29, 2013.
