So Koki really becomes a Monk!

It has been announced that KAT-TUN‘s Koki Tanaka will play a monk named Gyoukei in the upcoming TBS drama “Ooku ~ Tanjou ~ Arikoto. Iemitsu Hen” where Sakai Masato plays a priest named Arikoto. Gyoukei will served as a disciple to Arikoto who will joined him in the inner chamber with 3,000 men vying for the affection of the female shogun to be played by actress Tabe Mikako (Tokugawa Imetsu).

“Ooku” is a popular manga by Fumi Yoshinaga that was  made into a movie back in 2010 which stars Arashi’s Ninomiya Kazunari and actress Kou Shibasaki.

The story revolves around an alternate history in Edo period wherein a mysterious plague affects only the male population. Due to the nature of the plague, male’s population have plummeted, which leads to a role reversal wherein females became more dominant than men. Female even hold the highest position at the time (Shogun) wherein only  Shogun’s can keep a harem of handsome and unproductive men known as Ooku.

Furthermore, the drama will follow Vol.2 to 4 of the manga and will have another movie adaptation to be shown in theaters this December.

Co-starring are Yumi Asou, Hiroyuki Hirayama, Nao Minamisawa, Toshinori Omi, Yasunori Danta, and Takashi Naitou.

Ooku ~ Tanjou ~ Arikoto. Iemitsu Hen” will start this October 12th, 10:00PM (JST) at TBS.
